A great trick I just learned is to throw multi band on whatever instrument you're working with. Then group it and the open the chain and copy it twice so you have 3 total. Low, mid, and high. Then you solo the low mid and high for each chain you made.

Now you can throw on effects to each section of frequency's and you can make some amazing dynamic sounds.

i use multiband dynamics as a widner, group it, open the chain and double it twice, solo one on lows, solo one on mids, solo one on highs, drag a utility onto low and high, crank up the width on the high to 400, mono the low. works fantastic. if the highs seem out of control i like to tame them with a compressor set to side compression only..

Love it

thanks, Matt, for another very useful technique! I've used it before but I think I still have some way to go to actually master it. currently I try to figure out how I can tame the low and the low-mid freqs in my synth-heavy darkwave/industrial songs. and the band dynamics tool is an important tool for this.

nice, I wasn't aware that you could turn down the ratio for having expansions, I always belive that only basic compressor has the possibility to became an expander
