For those of you that are questioning the legitimacy of Reekay‘s advice, or perhaps find it a bit radical.
I assure you that it is well founded.
I wish I had heard this advice before I made a terrible mistake myself.
It was very expensive, and a dark chapter in my life.
His advice to take at least one year to get to know somebody is worth its weight in gold.  
Don’t make the mistake that I did.
Take your time. Listen to the advice of a man that’s been there.

I am sure there is some guy watching this one and saying to himself "this will not happen to me."

Lol, good video. I moved here at 61 in '17 also never visited prior to the big move but did so much prior research I knew this WAS what I wanted.
Never do dating sites !! Guys just don't realize the attention/status u get here. 2 days ago I sat around 6pm outside the mall here waiting for my asawa watching many workers walking by me on their way home thinking just how easy it is to start a conversation. Often someone will greet you.
 When u find someone here take it very slow. You're pretty much the kid in the candy store with much to choose from. This is VERY different culture than what u may think, yes more traditional but also allegiance to family very strong...plan & think w/your right head & u could find yourself a happy man..

Have been living in Thailand for almost two years, and I am an up close and personal man, so those dating sites are not for me. Last week I ended a 7-month relationship with a woman here. Two weeks ago, she said she was DEEP in DEBT and was looking for someone to help her out. Also, she said her ex-boyfriend wanted to get back with her. Personally, l stays away from women who are deep in debt and have ex-boyfriend issues. I told her I don't put NOTHING and NO ONE above my PEACE. If a man has no boundaries he is going to get destroyed. Remember you always talk about not having that "scarcity" mindset. In America I stayed away from women who were deep in debt and have ex-boyfriend issues and that is not going to change because I am now living in a foreign country. 100% true. Followed Reekay’s advice went to Philippines for my reasons only a motorbike tour around Cebu and Bohol met several wonderful women. Went solo motorbike ride through northern Negros Occidental almost ran out of fuel near a village a young woman gave me petrol from her dad’s motorbike. Went back that night and took the family out as a thank you. Been dating her for two years now. Happiest time of my life. I’m 54 and a very average guy with limited dating opportunities at home. Go to the Philippines do your own thing and you’ll be surprised the number of opportunities.

You are absolutely right.  I made all the mistakes that you've already talked about.  I met my wife  online about 12 years ago.  I came for one visit over about a week or 2, thought I liked her enough and within a short period she ended up in Indiana where we lived together for about a year.  Then she said she wanted to return to the Philippines which I didn't want to do.  I was against it because I wasn't ready to retire.  I'm a retired doctor now, but back then I was sill working.  I became a doctor late in life so I figured that I had about a decade more before I felt I should retire, but I gave in to her.  From the get go before we met in person she was asking me for money.  First, to bail out her brother-in-law's father from prison because he was a rebel who had done a lot of bad things which she claimed wasn't his fault.  Then, this or that.  After we got married and ended up in the Philippines, she wanted a big house.  Not just any big house, but a severn bedroom mansion (which is just ridiculously too much house here in the Philippines) which she designed..  It's beautiful.  It's looks like a luxury hotel, but it's a pain in the ass to maintain and quite expensive.  Then, she asked me to buy 3 other properties which cost me a small fortune.  In the meantime, her spending has always been out of control.  Each your my income I take out of my retirement account exceeds $250,000 dollars.  I have no idea where the hell it all goes.  All I know is that it's a burning a huge hole in my pockets.  Also, most days she's gone most of the day until the late afternoon when our daughter gets off of school.  Then, she often parties with her girlfriends at night.  She's even come home the next day like nothing happened.  I wish I had spent the time to get to know her. better  I wouldn't be writing to you if I did.  It's a warning to other expats.  Don''t be stupid like me.  Go slow.  Get to know your girl.  Don't fall in love with the beautiful face until you've checked things out thoroughly.  If you have the money, hire a private detective for a few months to follow her around and see if she's up to anything you should know about.

The problem with dating apps is the girls on them are looking for guys who use dating apps.  That generally means a girl who has exhausted her local options one way or another.  Either no guy she knows meets her "standards", or any guy who knows her is looking for somebody else.  That's just the ones looking to make a real connection.  Those are not in the majority.

You are right to some degree... that plan B is not perfect, not even second choice.. doesn't mean it cannot work!
You can protect your account from being emptied.. never give her full access.. make her an own account and transfer some monthly budget to it..
I know some couples in my country with a Thai woman and they live together since many years.
I have been married to one myself. No really bad experience. Just the compatibility was lacking. Analyzing it afterwards: Everything was not a suprise, but could have seen before (online)... just don't ignore it.

Thank you for sharing - I agree 100% with what you are saying about dating in the Philippines - 100% honest and great advice.
I came to Cebu (with my dad who is 79) to meet a lady I got to know on a dating website (I have known her for about 4 years - I could not come earlier due to Covid-19 and because I was a contract worker). After arriving (I am here now), I discovered that I was being played the entire time (she has a boyfriend) and I am sure she is doing it to other foreigners too.
It is not a complete loss (actually it is a win) as I have learnt many lessons and I did not lose too much money.
I am now spending quality time with my dad in a really beautiful country with beautiful people.  This is also my dad's first holiday in his life. My dad is happy to be here.
Cebu is a great location and I can see what the place is really like - A great place to retire too.

Made my plan, house is going up for sale next week then I am going over the road trucking for about a yr to two investing.

Wise advice. I'm going through the exit process. You're inspiring me in getting my mind, process, goals right.
