the bird writes my lryics

Watching Paul McCartney improvise/write “Get Back” in the studio is a very good demonstration of all these tips

I’ve done instrumental stuff for the longest time and didn’t start making lyrics till the last couple years…

It’s hard lol.

I read the thumbnail as How Write To Lyrics 😅

Mumbled lyrics is how we got “fit check for my napalm era” in KPH’s Golden!

the occasional squawks are so endearing

You look like you make music so I trust you

dude i love stereosity and i just happened to stumble upon this in a inspirational search

As someone who's been writing songs like crazy for a while now since graduating college last Christmas with my art degree when I'm not animating and doing character work, this video preaches so much truth!

As a musician, I always like putting my feelings and thoughts into words, then figure out the composition, melody etc to go with that along with the rhythm along with my singing vocals, since when I have a big idea whether I'm animating, doing character work via voiceover, or singing, tone and intent is always my number one priority.

Great video Sam!

Wish this vid was out like a year ago - wouldnt have spent this long trying to find a good process (only to realise its exactly what you talk about in the video, especially the improv stuff thats very helpful)

I'm not a comment on youtube videos type, but - its refreshing to find something that's not the Nashville music factory approach.  I follow the same process - make the song > mumble a rhythm (WHILE PLAYING!) > some of the mumbles sound like actual words, or might BE actual words > go from there.  In the last few years, intentionally mapping the melody (piano roll, guitar whatever, DAW helps but not needed) has been a huge help in making the mumblemelodies stronger during/before the words take shape.  I have done the venn diagram phrasing multiple times too!

I expect this process is common for folks that are players first - lyrics and singing are almost a necessary evil over the Actually Important bit of the instrumentation.

I agree with the mumbled lyrics. I call it blah blah lyrics. Sometimes words come through when you listen back and inspires the whole song. After 35years of writing, this still works.

that's much how I have approached it, create a track first then fit lyric and melodies after, but there is another way, just collect lyric ideas first, write lyric draft of song and see where the lyrics lead the music to instead of being constrained by trying to fit the lyrics to pre-existing music.

woah! clicked on this video and was pleasantly surprised that you’re in stereosity, that’s awesome!

omggg I just happened to see y'all at philly cheese skate fest the other month and then stumbled upon this video while looking for tutorials on lyric writing lol, I didn't know you had a YT channel. ur set was A+++ and I will def be trying to snag tickets to the show at mohawk
