Originally built by MSD as a Japanese-specification Honda Accord test and development car for Mugen Honda, this unique Super Tourer was driven by several drivers, including 1996 JTCC champion Naoki Hattori.

In 1997, Honda America acquired the car, re-badged it as HART001 and entered it in the North American Touring Car Championship (NATCC), driven by Forrest Granlund and Peter Cunningham.

Following the cancellation of the series, the car sat largely unused for 20 years before being purchased by Nigel Arkell, shipped to New Zealand, rebuilt and returned to competition in Historic Touring Car Series around the World.
