What are your thoughts on Gaos life? Did you already know the history of her family or what happened to her tomb?

This was a crazy story to research mainly because the punishments were so incredibly severe!

I hope you guys enjoyed this episode! ♥️

I think the Emperor couldn’t excuse her family from their crimes because it wouldn’t have been right. All the lives of the women in the harem they lived to ensure the wealth and health of their family. Why didn’t her cousin and nephew think of how high the emperor thought of her and of their family?? They knew what they were doing was wrong. What a way to pay her back, by thinking you could get away with the crimes they committed. Their greed ruined their families reputation! Of course you should be punished. All those years locked in at the palace, they didn’t think of her sacrifices. But isn’t that how family can be sometimes.

Though rare in China, it is possible she had cystic fibrosis. It would explain the chronic lung issue and infertility coupled with early death.

I hope there is drama about Gao guifei as the main character

Those who desecrate tombs believe their actions justifiable at the time. They rob future generations of history and agency.

Only watching Ruyis love in the palace I didn't know she went through this

Ruyi knows this tombs robbery will happen  so she safe still resting undisturbed

I never knew this about this her she was certainly a fascinating woman.     And a good ine

Your insight and talks about grief moved me. I’m really loving your videos as I just discovered your channel, but the way you approach these topics and speak about these women who have been through so much is so kind. I really love your videos!!

I love these deep dives, next is Kangxhi consorts please

She was a political pawn but she like ALL the concubines in a harem, she was forced to be ruthless! The harem is not cosy and full of friendship as many people think! In the harem was literally killed or be killed! Every woman in the harem was fighting for themselves and their family's interests! The aristocratic families in China who had a daughter in the harem or had connections with the royal family thought they were above others. Her family was the same! Hence why her family was so comfortable committing crimes because they knew they were protected by the crown! People want to claim that she wasn't as bad as the drama portrayed her; the drama was milled, infact they down played a lot of Ruyi's crimes. Many people say she was kind; well, image can be forged, and in China, being seen as virtuous and kind was very important; being seen as kind and virtuous was an image many young girls of noble families cultivated during their childhood. Ruyi was another fine example of that, she was also a fine example of what can happen when someone is given a lot of power. She was given power, and like many concubines before her, she abused her power; her family abused that power and eventually brought disaster to her and their door!

Gao's lack of children and sudden high promotion feel a lot like social engineering. Considering the entire structure of their relationship, her clan's elevation to freedom,  her promotion, her lack of pregnancy, the fact that her health was far too frail to risk a pregnancy. it just screams "social engineering" to me.

i only watched 延禧攻略， and I always wondered why 高贵妃 never had a kid in the show despite her not being very young, now I know that it was to try and align with the actual past where she was actually infertile😮

If she had TB, it would have spread to others.

Gao at Ruyi's Royal love was betrayed by the empress.

😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

Lady Gao is the villan in the Harem series "Empresses of the Palace"

I think she had recurring tuberculosis maybe !?

so all of qianglong's consort mostly were gentle and kind etc etc then can we say that the harem was peaceful durint his reign or not?

In Yanxi, Gao is one of my favourite characters. I absolutely love how she speaks, such beautifully clipped, or drawled, language. I don’t see her as bad, but frustrated, that as equal and as loved as she is, she still has to constantly establish herself as top dog. It is a drama, so of course it has to be exciting. If you dig through the fiction you can see a glimmer of the actual women shining through.

If we look at the stories of the five uglies and the five beauties, the emperor and court likely did value her duties more than her beauty.

I’m in TCM and a phlegm issue makes sense for another comment I saw; cystic fibrosis. I’d have to go look up her actual symptoms, because now I’m curious.
