"Too thin."

Meanwhile, everyone is a stick figure.

I always get thrown off when the stick figures smile and they only have 3 or 2 teeth 😂

Ming empresses were generally of lower birth, daughters from lower officials, sometimes even peasants and merchants daughters. Definitely not noblemen's daughters. After the Ming was established as a solid dynasty, the Hongwu emperor demanded that no empress in the future would be of an influential family, because he was scared that an influential family would work their way deep into the court and causing corruption due to connections. This is what led most previous dynasties to collapse and he wanted to prevent that.

“You sleep beside a god, but wake beside a stranger.” Classy stuff Bernard

Interesting we get to hear the introductions of the concubine/consort through the empress' eyes. Its always through the other innocent party we see it, and the empress is usually a bad guy.

It makes you realize how dangerous it was to live at the center of power. You weren’t living the dream you were living inside a political minefield.

@RobertHorryyyy 9 months ago

this is the POV of the Empress, the concubine had her own video a few months ago if you scroll down that’s pretty cool

I'd purposely fail the first round where there's 100s of girls being disqualified at once where I can just go home with no consequences 😂

These thumbnails need to die, I'm not even kidding

Learning more about historical figures I can say it's hard to judge them. I see this woman as a mother protecting her son from a horrible fate. She was given luxury playing cards with only a shitty hand.

Came for the history lesson, stayed for the drama movie with no expectations of historical accuracy.

The thumbnail was completely uncalled for...

The first four Ming Emperors all requested live burials at the time of their death. An exception was granted to Empress Sun by the fourth Emperor Xuande, who spared his Empress' life but not those of his concubines. Eventually, this practice was ceased by Empress Sun, who was also the reigning power of the day.
