Did Asuka Kasen ever know that Claude killed her brother?
In GTA 3, Claude runs over Kenji Kasen in a stolen Cartel Cruiser on Donald Love's orders, and the Colombians take the blame. A few days later, Kenji's sister Asuka, co-leader of the Liberty City Yakuza and the best-informed woman in the city, gives Claude a new job. She saved his life, she vouched for him in front of her own family, and she trusted him more than anyone else in the game. So did she really never figure it out?
In this GTA 3 lore deep dive, we follow the Kasen family from Liberty City Stories through GTA Advance to GTA 3 and put the evidence on the table. How Claude got a seat at Asuka's table. How her intelligence network caught spies, rats and undercover cops. Who actually ordered the hit on Kenji, and why the reason is way pettier than revenge. What cut content from the GTA 3 design document says about Donald Love and a Yakuza boss who never made it into the game. And why a family history that repeats itself makes this question much harder to answer than every wiki says.
We'll build the case that she didn't know, then flip sides and build the case that she did. Missions covered include Last Requests, Sayonara Salvatore, Under Surveillance, Paparazzi Purge, Payday for Ray, Two-Faced Tanner, Kanbu Bust-out, Liberator, Waka-Gashira Wipeout, Grand Theft Aero, Bait, Espresso-2-Go, S.A.M. and more.
Where do you stand? If Asuka had found out the truth, would she have killed Claude, or kept him on the payroll? Let me know in the comments.
