When Samatha revealed that those button released atomated machine guns, I was like ''okay, Samatha is officially no longer a grounded serial killer, she is a Doctor Octopus level supervillain now''.

My biggest issue was how Monica was underutilized in the finale. She was shown to be able to defend herself against those two muggers in her debut and I expected that even if she wasn't going to make it out alive in the end, she wouldn't go down without a fight

In hindsight Sam being included in the DC KO comic was a dead giveaway that series was gonna get milked to death

Look at how they murdered my murderer…

Getting Monica naturally to town could’ve been so easy, she’s doing research into murders, Nigel’s murders (and what was pinned on him) happened 8 years ago, he brother died 8 years ago. She researches essentially a prolific serial killer who committed horrific murders during the same time period her brother goes missing in a neighboring town, boom, reasoning. Also I do think the prequel was alright

Completely disagree that it’s a ‘waste’ to focus on the other characters, I think it could have really helped the narrative. Show how things are changing, especially with the rise of the internet, the tortoise could’ve really helped emphasize that, i loved seeing the effects the murders had on the town and  on Charlie’s kids and wife, maybe you found it boring but I truly did sympathize and care especially about Charlie’s kids and their struggles.

I like the idea that despite everything, theres still a consequence to - yaknow - killing people.

The problem is that the sequel forgot that Sam is not a mastermind, she was just taking advantage of a small town and its trust. The ONLY reason she gets away with her crimes is because the one person who knew the truth didn't tell anyone simply because she thought she knew Sam and her son, and cared. In truth Sam just waxes poetic to herself to justify her little niche and have a why, shes only marginally smarter and has drive which other chracters lack.

What really gets me annoyed is that Sam has essentially become Nigel. In the original, Sam doesn’t dwell upon her victims at all. She doesn’t care who they are or how she is effecting their next of kin, and she has no lingering thoughts about them aside from remembering where they are buried in case someone comes snooping. She doesn’t view people as anything beyond a means to an end to satisfy her desire for absolute control, and while she does revel in the killing it’s never on a personal or malicious level, more of an animalistic instinct that requires satisfaction.

Nigel on the other hand clearly enjoys the act and the memory of killing, shown when he takes pictures of his victims to keep for himself. He values the shock that it causes other people, and is shown to have a much more predatory attitude towards his victims in contrast to Sam’s random chance selection. That’s what makes the dichotomy between them so interesting. They are both evil sure, but each is a different kind of evil, and it’s up to the audience to decide which one is worse, and I assure you most would pick Nigel.

The nuance of Sam’s character is explored with the cave/snake dreamlike sequence. It doesn’t justify her killings but shows why she can’t just stop doing it since it’s ultimately a part of her identity. And despite her being evil, it does put her character into a perspective that’s not entirely malicious, just on the same level as an animal.

But then part two goes and ruins it by assassinating Sam’s character and making her essentially the same thing as Nigel. She’s shown to be fully enthralled in toying with Monica, leading her along just to savor it. She becomes fascinated with her own legacy by the end, which completely contrasts her calm and uncaring demeanor, and is more in line with Nigel’s sadistic pleasure of the memory of his killings. Her thinking no one should live in Woodbrook if she can’t makes no sense! She had a small level of attachment to the town but not in any envious way, she only valued it as cover, and the original Sam wouldn’t take pleasure in its destruction. If the original Sam was found out she would have just left as quickly as possible, not wait around to get arrested the next fucking day!

It’s disappointing, but I’ve seen so many cool stories get ruined by sequels or corporate meddling or whatever at this point that I just don’t really care anymore.

If I had to write a sequel, I would take a page out of the story of the story of the Golden State Killer, someone who was unknown for decades until DNA evidence tied him to the murders. I think the use of DNA and a more sophisticated infrastructure to hunt serial killers plays into the idea that progress undoes Sam while also rooting it in something that isn't over the top because it's something that actually occurred with many real serial killers.

But I do think this story was most hurt most by the fact they have to make a sequel. The fact that they have to limits what they can do because Sam always has to get away. It's another case of commercialization misunderstanding what made the original so effective. Common story

The original was honestly so peak, I’m always wary whenever peak tries to continue

That ending really had to be the dumbest thing I've seen in a while.

When Sam got away last time, it was combo of luck and quick thinking.

This was just bs plot armor.

I cared about Charlie and his death.  It made me so sad and he was such a sweet character.

Part one:
"I cannot let this serial killer cause unnecessary attention to my hunting grounds, else my own enjoyment will be ruined and I will be in danger."

Part two:
"You know directly contacting the relative of one of my victims, telling her I know what happened to him and sending her on a wild goose chase where she can potentially figure out that I am the killer while I try to frame the a guy that is no longer a problem while she was nowhere near close to figuring out that the killer even lives in the same area as me? Sounds mad funny."

I think what disappointed me the most was how Samantha was handled. What I found most interesting about Samantha and what helped set her apart from similar characters was how grounded she was. She felt and acted like a real-life serial killer would probably act, who knew how to put on a mask in front of others. But the story also made a point to show that Samantha could be caught off guard, that she wasn't unstoppable, and could have her plans foiled by characters like Nigel. She had to actually think about how to hide her crimes when he almost exposed her, and even then it was still down to luck

But in Rite of Spring, she feels like every overconfident serial killer that is always 2 steps ahead of everyone else. You could argue that after Nigel, she decided to be more prepared in case someone else tried to expose her, but by the end of it, she feels and acts like a borderline supervillain. To me, it makes her far less scary and compelling as a character

They basically turned Sam into Hoffman from SAW at the last second to appear badass or something

If Monica actually had come to Woodbrock because of her own research it would make sense why Sam immediately zeroes in on her. She's learned from Nigel not to overestimate her luck, so she pretends to be Monica's friend in order to sabotage her investigation and make sure she doesn't find out that it was really Sam who killed Daniel. It would be so cool if the whole sequel was them playing mind games with each other and we never really knew just how close Monica is. Is she really oblivious or has she started suspecting Sam? Who's messing with who here? But nah, Sam's in control the whole time. Lame.

Yeah I was interested for a bit then sam flipped a switch that killed all the cops with secret hidden shotguns and then i couldn't take it seriously anymore

The koala getting a concussion from stairs becomes even funnier when you learn that Koala skulls are incredibly good at impact absorption because their brains are small and they have a sack of jello around it to protect themselves from, you guessed it, falling from trees
