Pour one out for all the styluses that lost their home. Gone but not forgotten

New 3ds xl + luma + hshop = ultra combo

The only reason the AYN Thor isn't the obvious choice here is the RAM pricing surge + the lack of availability/value outside the US.

When Nintendo designed the 3DS, they didn't manually program or emulate DS features from scratch. Instead, they physically integrated a modified version of the Nintendo DSi system architecture directly into the 3DS motherboard to serve as a sub-processor. As such, we ended up accidentally getting a device that despite not having the port to insert GBA cartridges, has native support for GBA games, so while it looks emulated, it is not.

As a modded New 3ds XL and Odin 2 Portal owner, I still want a Thor for dual screen games. The upscaling on the Thor would make 3ds games so much better for me. The 3ds resolution is showing its age.

I’m so glad I have a used, modded 2DS XL. But I also got it for $109, and I’m not sure if I could truly justify it with today’s prices and the existence of amazing replacements.

The stuttering is called compilation stutter. Happens when new shaders are loaded into the game and it has to compile them, that's why it happens the first time a new asset or effect goes off but after that its relatively smooth

The worst mistake of my adult life was selling my New 3DS XL for $200 USD like 6 years ago

Forgot to mention 4x resolution, texture packs, mods, etc. you can create a whole remaster and play in dual screen

My train of thought is that I already have the Nintendo switch 2 (which I play most of the games I want anyway) but I’d love to replay the nostalgia from the 3DS, esp modded.

You’re literally the GOAT bro , you always upload a video when I don’t have anything to watch , thanks coulter ❤.

I almost pukled the trigger on a thor over the summer. But i found my old 3ds xl. Saved myself 300 bucks and its been awesome!

Most honest Ayn Thor review I've seen

Good honest review. The Thor’s case was a bit rushed and something you didn’t mention aside from mods and texture packs is the rise in dual-screen for non-DS games like Balatro and Skyrim.

If you're willing to wait and keep an eye out, old 3ds prices can be as low as ~100 bucks, and there's a 5000mah battery mod available for it.
I thought the 3d was a gimmick, but I absolutely love it now that I have it.

Since we finally got a retro handheld with a 4:3 OLED, which I didn’t think would happen at least in the near future, it might be possible that we eventually get a retro handheld perfect for 3DS. We eventually need one, since original hardware won’t work forever. But a lot of things need to happen and it might be quite a few years away:

* Combination of more powerful chipset and more optimized emulation making shader stutter unnoticeable on a device with marketable prices (this will eventually happen, but not for a few years at least, especially with the RAMpocalypse).

* Double OLED top screen and retinal camera for stereoscopic 3D (the screen cost would be higher and I don’t know how viable it would be for a retro handheld developed to get a functioning retinal camera off the shelf or develop it themselves).

* Resistive bottom screen, probably with emulation or hardware improvements to reduce lag (this is also a big ask but maybe not impossible if manufacturers are starting to commission their own screens).

I would of loved an ayn thor at the original prices, what they cost now just for emulation is insane and not worth it if you have multiple ways to play retro consoles, or the consoles themselves, had no idea my 2dsxl was gonna be worth 2.5 times what i paid for it, I'm sure my wiiu has doubled in price since i got it as well, but man oh man the thor is a beauty tho

Issues such as these is why I'm hoping another gen of clamshell devices to fix this

Just ordered my Thor, and hopefully will get it in 2-3 months, im excited
