I bought a Burns Marvin bass back in 2007,it,s the best bass I,ve ever played over the years, It,s still going strong.

In clarifying a comment, Bruce’s Burns Marvin’s did have the Tremeloe fitted he just had the arms removed. A late photo of his white one was drilled out in the rezotube plate to accommodate a Strat arm. This was used by John Farrar on occasions.

I had a 2004 Marvin but it was heavy, the Marquee ones are nice.

The white Marvin’s and bass had tortoise shel pick guards the greenburst set had the black plates.

Good to see you here! Just thinking of picking up one of these from Bath tomorrow.

love my marquee going to buy a marvin

Thanks for this thoroughly informative and enjoyable vid...from another Burns player.

Had a LH Rapier 22 in the early 60's which I replaced with a LH Burns Split Sound Jazz in the late 60's and it was a fantastic instrument - so sorry that I sold it when the band broke up.  Bought a new Marquee in 2000 and I love it (also have an American Strat and an American Tele, a Custom Les Paul copy, an Aria shell back, and a Blue Ridge acoustic - all being LH models.

Up here in Newcastle (Jim Burns was from this area) a local instrument and record shop had room which was all Burns instruments. They had all the spares for Burns guitars and when they closed down they were selling off all the spares and I recall a full box of brand new Tri-Sonic pick ups for about 5 0r 10 shillings each.(Wish I had bought them).Greg Burman of Burman amps and speaker cabs had a place just round the corner in Handyside Arcade,Happy days.Cheers.

Amusing looking back when Hank Marvin's Burns guitar came out a music shop had one displayed in its window and I used to stand outside looking at it,  I so wanted it £100.   I saw and heard him play his, back then it was such a great sound but later I got a Strat the other year they were selling Marquee's off so I bought one.  I quite like the sound you can get out of them the pickups are hotter than my American Strat,
An Interesting video,   of course back then I saw a number of burns guitars being played by groups .  I think everyone was started on electric guitar by  Hank Marvin's playing and sound because there was nothing like that sound around at that time,   even the great guitarist where started by that sound and the fact that Hank looked so cool at that time playing the strat but of course they don't like to say that because it is not seen as cool when you don't play a loud of notes.

I thought for a minute at the start it was Reg Hollis doin the video.

Another comment from the one I have just posted.I should have watched your vid to the end as I will now have a look at mine to try and fix it because at the moment is not used,a real shame as I bought it new in 2000 when I think it was about 300 pounds.Cheers.

For what i can see yours is the first run Marquee in Trafalgar Red (original color name) most of us call this fiësta red because the link with Hank Marvin. If u use the trembar a lot I advise u to replace the 2 screws of the fixed tremelo base in quality screws same size en use some treat locker for the tiny allen screws to keep those 2 points in place. Great guitar then.
Fyi…i’ve owned them all 😊

Let me share my playing experiences with my Burns guitars. With regards to my Marvin Burns, it plays very well except for its gold finish string saddles corroding, not a big deal. I also have 3 Marquee guitars that I find hard to set up its tremolo system. With 10-46 D'Addario Balanced Tension strings, I still have to use 5 springs to set up the right balance tension to get the tremolo arm at the right height right. I guess I was expecting to get to same playability and comfort as with a Stratocaster. I believe that we are sharing the same experiences.
I've noticed that the newer Marquee model has the 2 points bridge attachment to the body similar to a Stratocaster. Also, the truss rod adjustment is now readily accessible and surely, it plays better.
Now, I would like to know if any one had adapted this 2 point bridge attachment to their earlier Marquee. Love to hear from you!

I have in my collection a Marquee, 2 Marvins and a D6. All excellent guitars although I do admit the Marvins are much better than the Marquee due to the Rezo Tube  trem block.

Have you remove the pickguard to see the pickups ? on this one they put terrible ceramic pickups not rezomatic

I just picked up one of these things. I love Burns guitars but this one is a bit funky. The bridge just isn't right. Plays fine until you touch the (awfully small) stick. I've read that the point retention bar can be a bit wonky. It's definitely a bit high to begin with. Goes out of tune with the slightest touch. Going have to get it sent back to the guitar shop to find the culprit. Nice guitar otherwise.

Very enjoyable playing at start.
