Randall Flagg’s Anatomy Explained - Is He Even Human, or Something Worse Wearing a Human Face?

Marvelous Videos

Stephen King has created some of the scariest monsters in ghost stories and horror movies, and the first name that immediately comes to mind is Pennywise. But apart from this cosmic clown terrorizing a town, we have plenty of other entities like the Wendigo or the rabid dog Cujo. But I think the most frightening villain ever created in horror stories is undoubtedly the mysterious ancient sorcerer, Randall Flagg, whom even King himself considers one of his best creations. His ambiguous identity and countless forms can sometimes confuse readers, but his ominous presence just can’t be ignored. But even though he appears to be human, why isn’t he considered one? Well, we have to dig deep into his history.

"Is he human?" Do you see humans shapeshift into demons and crows?

Yes. Flagg was canonically a servant of the crimson king. He brought multiple worlds to ruin to serve him.

M-O-O-N that spells Flagg

Yep. He was serving the crimson king. But he tried to use Mordred to overthrow the king. Lo and behold, that beautiful end.

Not only that , but they decided to kill him right at the beginning of the last novel . Like if he’s supposed to be Roland’s biggest nemesis and one of King’s most iconic villains, wouldn’t it make more sense to save his death for the end , that way he and Roland could have one last final epic showdown?

Those practical effects were & still are spine tingling

When he became a member of the Viet Cong to fight the Americans, that showed me how powerful he was.

0:44 he's a Longtimer like what was mentioned in "Insomnia"

I don't think Randall serves ANYBODY. He's a bringer of chaos. The Chrimson King's goals align with his, and by "serving" him he gets better access to the resources he needs to, again, bring chaos. I don't think he gives a dead moose's last sh*t if he serves someone, as long as he gets to do his thing, he'll do what he has to.

Another excellent video brother 👏🏻 yesterday Salem's Lot/Barlow and today Randall Flagg.. he's very scary but I don't know man, Barlow is the scariest creature ever put on film for me! (1979 version of course!) That first closeup scene in the jail cell, he's horrifying.. ruined me at 6 years old when it premiered! Lol

I think the 90s Randall Flag is probably the most frightening of them all.

Thomas Jane would make a great Flagg

It depends on which version of Flagg that you’re talking about. When King first created the character he was Lucifer, and then he was a lesser demon, and eventually he was a human that ran away from home as a teenager, was r*ped by a man, and was left to die. He refused to die and dragged himself from the horror to learning magic and becoming a horror himself.

But as your video mentions he had a couple other origins as well and which one is the correct one depends entirely on his creator and his current stance on the character.

For those that felt his death was a let down I feel that they have missed the theme of that book. One of the themes of the end of Dark Tower was that evil, in the end, is ultimately pathetic.
