The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid just arrived, and this one came wearing the all-new Dark Petrol paint, a color you have to see in person to believe. In this video I give you my honest first impression of AMG's electrified performance SUV: the styling, the new Dark Petrol finish in different light, the interior, and what the hybrid powertrain means for the way this GLE drives and performs. If you're wondering whether the new GLE 53 Hybrid lives up to the AMG badge — or whether Dark Petrol should be on your build sheet — this is your first look.

I love the SUV except for the tire rims. I would get different tire rims and then it would be perfect.

Im a BMW owner but always love that AMG GLE-S63. Just wish they would add Electric Running Boards.

My only complaint - those screen bezels are HUGE! They certainly have the capability of installing larger screens and reducing the bezel size. Just look at the screen options in the 2027 GLC 400 EV. Yet, they opted to install these which remind me of the early flat screen TVs of the 2000s where bezels were 1.5" to 2".

The 2027 GLE 53 is rated for only 43 miles of EV range. Also they removed the Race Start function which gave the car over 600 HP in other countries. I guess they didn’t want this GLE 53 to be as powerful as the GLE 63. Kind of crazy that we could get an almost 700 HP GLC before and now the GLE 53 only has 577 HP. I still will probably get a GLE 53 but I honestly think the GLC 63 would be a better fit for me. Too bad they discontinued that vehicle with no replacement announced yet.

If an AMG is going to be a PHEV, there should be an option to default it to start in gas mode. Not being able to do the emotion start by holding the paddle is enough to make me not upgrade my current GLE 53.

Love it! I currently have the 2025 GLE 450e. I get about 60 miles on Electric during the summer, closer to 50 in winter or cooler months. Only rated at 381HP, but seems to give a good kick with electric torque.

I like it. But I'm also confused by the MB radiators, some are horizontal bold bars, other vertical.

I’m curious whether the 2027 GLE 500e will offer EV-only range similar to, or better than, the current GLC 350e. I had assumed the AMG plug-in hybrids offered less electric range because their battery systems were tuned more for performance. I currently drive a ’25 GLC 350e and am considering moving into a GLE 500e. I may also consider an AMG variant to scratch the sports-car itch, especially if its electric range is comparable. I’d love to know how these models are expected to compare.

what color is this one, I don't see at the website for this color, if I want to buy only 2027 GLE 450 4MATIC SUV, can choose this color?

I feel like Mercedes is trying to stretch this body style out to 2030 to see if they can just replace it with an EV or if they will have to do a new gas variant to last 7 years. And I 2nd the Cadillac Vistiq has a better screen and it has 615 hp. These 6 cylinder AMG’s are a little soft. My has a 2021 GLE53, the performance is fine but it isn’t AMG standard, it should just be a GLE500.

The only problem is that from the original M-class (2000), to the ML (2006), to the GLE - it has been getting porkier and porkier - larger in every dimension and not in a good way. A fully optioned original M was about $40,000, now a fully optioned GLE53 will run $126,000. Oh well.
