The more Chris was stripped down the better he was because his talent was just so raw and unmistakeable. Just hits you right in the face. I found Soundgarden at age age 12 in 1991 and it took me a few more decades to realize he was a once in a lifetime musician. I was spoiled.
It's incredible (and heartbreaking) when you finally realize that he wasn't writing dark, melancholic lyrics for lack of better things to say - we were reading a cryptic diary that spanned decades. The greatest voice of our generation, & a singer/songwriter for the ages. RIP CC
"A poet is an unhappy being whose heart it torn by secret sufferings, but whose lips are so strangely formed that when the sighs and the cries escape them, they sound like beautiful music... and then people crowd about the poet and say to him: Sing for us soon again; that is as much as to say. May new sufferings torment your soul. " ~~ Søren Kierkegaard
This is almost excruciating to watch, knowing his voice is gone. He has an almost supernatural gift for pitch and control- it eats me alive every time I watch old clips. The loss will never go away.
Nothing seem to kill me no matter how hard I try Nothing is closing my eyes Nothing can beat me down for your pain or delight And nothing seems to break me No matter how hard I fall nothing can break me at all Not one for giving up though not invincible I know
I've givin' everything I need I'd give you everything I own I'd give in if it could at least be ours alone I've given everything I could To blow it to hell and gone Burrow down and Blow up the outside world
Someone tried to tell me something Don't let the world bring you down Nothing will do me in before I do myself So save it for your own and the ones you can help
Want to make it understood Wanting though I never would Trying though I know it's wrong Blowing it to hell and gone Wishing though I never could Blow up the upside world
At least once a week, I fall into a u-tube hole of live Chris performances. it gets me through the bs. It f..king sucks he's gone. but that voice and his music, will forever be alive and well in my soul. RIP man.
