A personal tribute to Conrad ‘Cronos’ Lant, the voice and bass of Venom, dedicated to his family, friends and the Legions around the world.
In the early eighties, I was playing in the Handsome Beasts and spending my evenings in Birmingham’s rock pubs and clubs. I remember Venom arriving — and I’ll be honest: at first, I didn’t understand them.

Looking back, I can see something I missed. Venom gave a voice to a feeling and reached people who didn’t yet know this was the music they had been waiting for.
Here I share my memories of that time and reflect on Cronos’s self-belief, his formidable stage presence and the lasting connection between Venom and their audience.

My thoughts are with Nathan, Conrad’s family and friends, and everyone who found something of themselves in this music.

Please share your memories of Cronos and Venom in the comments. What was the first record or performance that connected with you?
