I managed to go almost 25 years without knowing anything about Andrew WK other than he liked to party. And now I’m finding out he may have in fact been lying about his love of partying. It’s gonna take me a while to get over this.

I had to pause the video and investigate this entire channel to make sure this isnt an Andrew WK psy-op

My favorite bit of Andrew WK lore was that as a teenager, he created a phony record label and placed ads in music magazines featuring roster acts that didn't exist.  When he received an order for one of the non-existant bands' albums (including an alternatve hip-hop, desth metal and country act), he would then write, record, package and ship the album.

Did I just get trolled and listened to Andrew WK pretend to be a youtuber investigating Andrew WK?

My old band played a show with him in 2013. I loved the weird mythos behind him, and I was so stoked about being able to hang out with him a bit. He was a neat dude. Before the show he was real quiet, his wife was really sweet, and it was just surreal how lucid he was. He specifically asked to meet the opening bands and thank us, and spent time talking to us all a bit. I was pretty green still, so I thought it was super cool of him to do that.

Since I knew a lot about the weird stuff around him, I specifically dedicated one of our last songs to Steev Mike. The other members of the band had no idea what I was talking about, but I thought it was hilarious. After we were done, he came over and slapped me on the shoulder while looking super serious, and said "I heard that." Then he broke and giggled a bit, slapped my shoulder again and walked off.

I think more than anything, hes always been a weird theatre kid trapped in a punk rock jock's body, and all the weirdness is just an extension of his need for bizarre performance art. I think he likes throwing so much chaos around his name.

I'm starting to worry that maybe I've been Andrew W.K. this whole time.

Andrew WK signed my buddies shirt at warped tour, and he wrote an entire paragraph. Like his message and signature took up the entire front of the shirt, and that's how was signing all of them. Dude was the best type of mad man.

Not only did AWK never fall out of his role, the bald bass player, who has seemingly with him for most of his career, also never spilled the beans after a few too many beers.

The best part of the whole Andrew WK situation is that it kicked off with legitimately one of the best party albums of all time.

its wild that i follow so many channels about weird / disturbing / whatever rabbit holes - and somehow this is the first time ive even heard of this whole thing. good job finding a mystery thats actually not just a reddit story or smth!

Andrew W.K. is a shining example of how to be The Residents without having to wear all that stuff on your head.

Getting wet is not when anybody is tricked into unknowingly smôking PCP. Wet is slang for it on the West Coast where it's liquid, and comes in vials, and getting wet is just doing it in general, voluntarily

My buddy had AWK as his voicemail for years. He met him early on and recorded his voicemail after a show one night. He would stay in touch for a while letting him know about shows and stuff

i remember watching AWK on MTV many years ago. he went to stay with a black sorority. they made him put on deodorant. he helped one girl who wanted to play the piano by plugging it in on stage and helping her play a chord during one of his songs. it made me tear up

The lyrics of that whole I Get Wet album, they're like a bunch of songs made by the Droogs from Clockwork Orange, they're insane.

How the hell was I never aware of the AWK lore?
I knew a few weird things about him, but not to this extent.
This whole video actually felt like another WK stunt by the end of this thing.

Andrew WK may be an industry plant but DAMMIT if he isn't one of the best fucking industry plants I've ever seen. I love AWK and am hoping for an "I Get Wet" anniversary tour next year.

He portrayed a person of total acceptance, positivity, and love
The world needs more of Andrew WK. Maybe now more than ever.
