Sonic.exe (sometimes formatted as Sonic.EXE), mostly known as X, is the titular main antagonist of the infamous creepypasta series of the same name created by Jack Cranely (also known online as Sir JC-the-Hyena).

He is an anomalous, extra-dimensional entity driven by an instinctive lust for destruction and pain. Born out of pure dark matter, X only began to acquire a physical form after learning about the world and the human race. He chose the appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog, being a major fan of the series and especially the titular character. Completely obsessed with enslaving the human race, X created an abstract CD-ROM copy of the original Sega Genesis game, which acts as a portal separating his dimension from Earth. Since then, he has used his cult to pass the game from victim to victim, hoping to one day use it to merge the two realms together and rule the human world and other worlds as a god.

After JC's version, many soon came after such as Lord X, 2011X, Rerun, Exetior, Exeller, Needlemouse, and many more fan creations of the iconic creepypasta.

I love how the story feels surprisingly lighthearted for the situation. These characters are pretty used to high stakes, so it makes sense that they don't approach the whole situation with much tension until the end, where things start getting cut a little TOO close and at least one major player didn't make it.

I also love how Nexus is written to be questionably competent and more humorous than other exes. He doesn't have perfect control over his minions, he gets caught up in monologues, is a bit too quick to let himself be stopped by a wall, drops his guard too often, and loves to taunt his target to a fault. He's a very flawed yet flavorful villain which helps feed into the more comical vibes of the whole story.

Overall, it makes the game and its story much more believable as something that could genuinely happen in the series, albeit a little more morbid than anything we would see officially. That authenticity helps things feel more "real" in the sense that we can see these characters as the ones we've grown up knowing and playing the games of. There's no horror character-isms or sacrifices of who a character actually is to direct the plot in a certain direction, we're seeing what would actually happen if Sonic, Tails, and Eggman had to go up against something possessing Knuckles.

What I love most about this game is how the .exe isnt incredibly powerful to the point that the characters can only beat the clones but are no match for the real demon. They actually have a chance in this game and kill nexus himself in some endings. Really refreshing.

im glad this game doesnt try to stick to the corny "exe kills everyone and they're evil" formula and actually adds a story, with humour, fluidity and good writing

There is an Eggman Solo ending if Tails doesn't beat Knexeous in time at the Flying Battery. Knexeous grabs Tails as the timer hits zero, but the two realize they are both screwed and the Flying Battery explodes. Everything else remains the same, and it is called the "Failed Duo Ending". Based on Game Jolt teasers on TailsBoi's account, there will be a Metal Sonic, Eggman, Tails, and TWO Sonic solo endings (all are complete except for the Sonic ones). There are current in-game teasers for this too, particularly in the Eggman-Sonic duo route if one of the characters dies in their respective bossfight. There is also an April Fools "Modern Mix" out there where you get to play the three data routes as modern Sonic (pissing every other character off in the process), and a new bossfight in Mystic Cave Zone exclusive to this modern mix was included.

I love how accessible this game is to a general audience, even those who don't care for .exe games, as well as how faithful it remains to not just the .exe genre, but also sonic in general. Also, the fact that, while the game takes itself seriously, it doesn't take itself TOO seriously, and it includes its own humor that makes it stand out from the crowd.

This game basically took Spirits of Hell and fixed each and every issue regarding it, and there is still the ability to improve since it is not yet a complete game.

imo, my favorite part of this game is that it still has some funny moments sometimes, like knexous saying skill issue when u die to the bomb in eggman's first level, dead eggman just running away when sonic goes into his dark form (which it is reasonable for him to do so), and huge props to the devs for knowing our hatred for water levels. not only is there just one in sonic's route, but it's super short as well.

I hope they let you choose whether you want just Metal Sonic, just Tails Doll, just Metal Knuckles or Metal Sonic & Tails Doll or Metal Sonic & Metal Knuckles or all three and it’ll affect Eggman’s route

being honest, i've played the april fool modern version, feels more punishing than anything on the 'Sonic' and 'Tails' run section, leaving no room for error while not making clear Modern Sonic's moveset.
