My brother has no respect for my boundaries but I found that if I got loud and or cried that would bother him. So every time he just stepped all over my boundaries I just started screaming and crying.  He backed off... but the cost... I was labeled as crazy.  So many women have learned that the only thing that gets men's attention is screaming and crying.

you hit the nail on the fact that these men reach for women who don't want them, because they think they are loosers and that that woman - if he was with her, he would be leveling up (and in some ways thats true, my brother focused on an active woman so to make sure he kept in shape). we are an accessory to life. not people.

Something to consider is that when Nikki gets possessed, she is basically replaced by this new entity created for the sole purpose of pleasing Bear. This new Nikki is essentially a child who knows nothing about love or boundaries or about how adults should behave in society and that's why she acts so weird. Her whole world revolves around Bear because she hasn't developed her own identity yet. She sees herself as an extention of Bear in the same way that actual infants see themselves as an extention of their parents. She hasn't developed theory of mind yet.

So when Bear tells this new Nikki to stop acting weird, he's grooming her into behaving more like an adult so that people around them don't realise how abnormal the relationship is. There's a pedophilic undertone to the entire movie.

This was the “Obsession” I was waiting for. Not many people actually talk about Bear’s obsession. They clearly can recognize Bear as the villain, but never go much deeper on why he’s the villain on a societal level.

Good stuff.

10:23 He was pissed b/c after all he did to crush Her will and re-write her personality, She still found a way to tell him that She didn’t want to BE w/ his trash-azz!

I actually love how the movie flips the gender roles to make it more overtly sinister. It's almost like a mirror of male weaonised incompetence. She cooks for him but what she cooks? His cat. She comforts him, but after doing something horrendous. She stays home but stays in her spot until she soils herself.
Lastly, there are tropes sprinkled all over this movie, one being the 'my girl doesn't want me to go out with the guys' trope.

Y'know what? This movie is so easy to understand it's like 1+1 = 2 and somehow some men still don't get it.

It's demonic to call you crazy when you have a normal, healthy reaction to your boundaries being violated.

one of the most nauseating reactions to this movie is people going "ong bro this is my ex/current gf" and its almost always said as a flex.

He thinks Sarah's a loser because Sarahs into him, that hit me so hard- I've known guys who hated me for liking them

One of my favorite little tidbits about the film was writer/director Curry Barker confirming that One Wish Willow isn't a monkey's paw in the traditional sense. It doesn't twist your wish to punish you; it gives you exactly what you wish for. Bear just made, to quote Barker, "an evil wish."

I feel so bad for Nikki, floor went through but also because not a single person cared about her.

my ex was an absolute demon, when he broke up with me (more or less.. he pushed a boundary that I finally refused to compromise on). I could write a novel on that, but the point I want to make doesn't require it.
anyway.. he was cold blooded. projection that 50 drive-ins couldn't touch. the bs he said was WILD. one thing he said was "I liked you better, the way you were when we met". my head nearly launched into space! I basically said, "yeah.. I did too!".
please never change for a man, accommodate him at your expense, etc! they are self absorbed in a way that only a sociopath would vibe with

Never believe a male with a "crazy" ex.  Completely avoid him if he says she has bpd.

I didn’t even think of the whole aspect of her being left to clean up his mess which she truly was! And that’s what so many men really want. She was just a mirror of his own arrested development. Honestly this is such an amazing film.

Weird take, but I also feel bad for the entity 'Wish Niki', cuz 'she' sure at shit wasn't having a good time either. Imagine you are willed into existence and you are the manifestation of Bear's perverted idea of love imposed on a human being, No wonder the entity went fucking nuts, Bear fucking hates himself and the wish just reflected that. Kinda loose, but it's like a head canon for me.

This is a detail I only noticed on a rewatch, Bear says something about inside joke while throwing up in front of Sarah.  He says it an additional time, mid vomit, trying to cover up how crazy the situation actually is.  They showed us pretty early how much he knew what he was doing.

I get the feeling that if Bear would have told Nikki how he feels, and she would have not reciprocated, he still would have used the willow. Either way, she was doomed as soon as he had access to that type of control.

First 🎉
I loved how the film Obsession explored the horrors of coercion and control.
Also loved your content plus other feminist channels helped me get out of a 13 year abusive relationship in November.

Keep posting and fighting the good fight💪❤️

Just some info, the director has said that he doesn't see a happy future for Nikki and that she likely would go to prison or a mental health facility so even the man who wrote it acknowledges that Nikki will be left to deal with the consequences of what was done to her by Bear.
