We need male characters who are masculine but respectful towards women.... I believe a man confident and secure of his masculinity will treat a woman with love, care, tenderness and respect.... Such men are rare these days.... Noah in this show was the best example of the kind of men women truly desire to be with ( definitely, not someone effeminate and gutless, majority of women doesn't want to be the guy in a relationship đ)
Absolutely LOVED this show, have watched it twice just because I canât get enough of it lol Truly such a great representation of a healthy relationship. Great chemistry, great plot, amazing cast all around. Really hope they stick to the formula and season 2 is as good as the first one đ
I listened to the podcast but came to the video just so I could comment--So glad you talked about this! This is exactly what my best friend and I have said for years. We are millennials. We always say when we have daughters we will use the comparison between the Lizzie McGuire movie and Princess Diaries for what you want in a first kiss / kiss from your crush. When Lizzie kisses Gordo it is literally the biggest let down of my childhood. It was SO LAME. We waited FOREVERRRR for this to happen. And it's this dumb little peck that SHE initiated. I get that there are factors here with her friend zoning him, she ran off with an Italian pop star, they're in 8th grade, etc. Regardless, this is NOT the type of guy or kiss you want. You want Michael Moscovitz to show up at the ball and really plant one on you. When Mia is nervous and rambling and he just grabs her and kisses her--WHOA. It's so good. My friend and I have always said, don't be like Lizzie, instead let the man lead and you'll get a great smooch.
Also, when he texted her saying "Have dinner with me" was sooo hot! Not "Would you like to have dinner with me?' or "I thought maybe you and I could have dinner together", just straight up telling her what you want. Not in a bossy way, but in an assertive way đ
Thanks soooo much for this review. We've given up on most shows because of all the unnecessary sex and nudity but given your assessment I feel safe adding this one to the list of shows to watch on maternity leave this Christmas đ
I love Noah because it has a healthy balance between being masculine (initiative, confident, protective) with being gentle and having emotional intelligence.
I think the show is political, I think art is always political, especially when they try to sell it as "not political," and I think this show doesn't try to fool us in that way. That's why it's a very good show.
Contrary to what you have said here, there are many woke aspects to this series, and at one one major toxic aspect to this series, ¨Nobody Wants This¨. Joanne´s Dad is gay, and the family welcomes the Dad´s new boyfriend without the typical turmoil. Joanne´s podcast is obviously very progressive, and the fact that Noah is dating Joanne, a non-Jew, is progressive. I think these things might not seem woke to you because you are already living in a world that has progressed significantly compared to the world of 90s romcoms, where such changes might feel like the norm rather than a shift. The relationship is majorly toxic because both Joanne and Noah are lying to themselves (and to each other) about their relationship´s true impact on their careers. Joanne knows that the relationship will ruin her podcast, because she won´t be able to speak freely about serial dating anymore. Noah knows he will not reach his life´s dream of becoming head rabbi if he marries Joanne, who will not convert. Also, Noah is withholding a very key piece of information from Joanne - that he cannot become head rabbi if she does not convert. He never shared this with her. In your video, you made it sound like Joanne understood this, but this was never spelled out to her by Noah, or by anyone else. Withholding important information is the same as lying, which is toxic. You also mentioned that there are no gratuitous sex scenes, but let´s not forget the frequent use of the ¨f¨ word, and the scene from the porn shop. I would not watch this show around kids. Anyway I guess I am saying that I disagree with some things you said.
