I've got a Sheppard with 3 legs who looks exactly like Odin. He's been with me through the worse that this life can throw at us. I got him as pup at 2 weeks. His siblings didn't make it because their mom's milk was getting them sick. My boy couldn't see as yet but crawled to my feet and wrapped up, I took him home drained his nostrils, cleared his beathing, warmed him up and he survived. I fed him with a cloth because the nipples were too big, and he slept by my pillow. He grew up just fine. One day I fell sick and left to go to the hospital, with my boy following me to the gate. I was kept for 5 days and when I returned home my boy was at the gate waiting. My Dad said he was there from the day I left to that time, never leaving the spot, even when it rained. My Dad was worried he had stopped eating a couple days before. After this he never let me out of his sight, staying by the last place he saw me until I returned. My shadow. Time passed and he was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago and lost his leg during that time. He bled out so many times from his injuries, I experienced those heart pains when trying to stop the bleeding and seeing his body convulse, I had to decide to calm down and save 2 lives, with his life being the focus. When one vet suggested I put him to sleep, my boy watched me in my eyes saying, "Don't think about it". He spent one month at the vet hospital, 3 months by his personal vet and one year in my porch area until he healed to the point where he could walk again. He has since fathered litters, lives peacefully with his girlfriend and remains my friend to this day, always looking for a scratch or a chance to father another litter. Needless to say, I cried during the movie, after the movie, but esp. when I'm lying on the ground hugging my boy, the tears don't stop, the memories of where we've been and what we've overcome together. Many good souls accompanied me on this journey of life, most were dogs. I find the best version of me when I'm with those who are loyal and loving. Thank all that is good in this universe for dogs.

Fun fact: Odens actual puppies played younger Oden. Yes, I cried also. Went home to explain certain parts to the wife and started chocking up.

Getting wrecked by a David Ayer movie was not in my bingo card.

Here's my opinion on it. This was Brad Pitt's The Revenant, but without the obvious attempts to get an Oscar. Revenant was amazing, but without spoiling, I felt more for the relationship between Brad's character and his dog than I did between Hugh Glass and his son in the revenant. I think the big reason this movie hits so hard is because it makes you cry and feel something without seeming like it's trying so hard to get that out of you. It's just a simple story of an army vet and his combat dog. That's it. It doesn't feel as grand and cinematic as The Revenant and I've got to say it actually works better. Because even though The Revenant was amazing, this movie feels real. More grounded. The movie hits you hard just because it's amazing. Not because it was trying to be. Truly a breath of fresh air.

Went with my very pregnant fiancé and we both lost our shit at the end. We have a husky and a female German shepherd and our shepherd is exactly like Odin. GSDs really will give their life for you in a heart beat and won’t think twice about it

I lost my dog recently. I thought I couldn't watch this movie because it would destroy me. I've already cried enough, but I'm just gonna lose it if I watch this and I dunno if I want to do that in the theatre. I think I will go. At the end of the day, it's love for my dog. It can't be a bad thing.

This movie triggered me, I cried so much 😢. What a sweet movie the bond with man and his dog.

I haven't cried in a few years until I saw this movie! It broke me. It stressed me out hard. It made me smile. Brad Pitt was awesome. Since there wasn't much dialog he used his facial expressions and his body to convey everything and it was perfect! ❤❤❤

I saw it Saturday and was my favorite of the 4 movies I saw this year. I just wish the beginning was changed to just showing lady stopping on the road and maybe just a questionable look on her face instead of what she saw in front of her.

Aaar man dog movies, lost my Lola 2 years ago next week. I cry every movie with a dog in the main story 😢😢

@RRambo19 6 days ago

Yes he was Army special forces and a Master Sergeant which is a really high enlisted soldier. Thought it was a great movie, reminds me of the old Robert Redford movies where there was more than tons of dialogue to chew on… Loved it through the tears!

I cried a lot more then next day after seeing the movie and thinking back on it. To me, that says a lot about the impact of the movie

@DrumDums I remember there was a young woman who was with somebody walking out of this saying “I didn’t cry!” after whatever guy she was with said otherwise and I couldn’t tell if she was being sarcastic or not.

If she was being completely straight when she said that, there’s no way in hell she wasn’t lying.

In fact, the movie ended and a guy got up with his popcorn and said to everyone in the theater “Don’t forget to go home and hug your dogs!”

I think the guy meant it as a joke but, to me it wasn’t a joke at all, as that’s exactly what I did when I got home, I hugged my German Shepherd Dixie and my German Shepherd and boxer mix Max as soon as I got home.

They were happy to have the love I could tell and I need to hug them and pet them for a nice stress reliever after the movie from crying so much at the end.

Loved it. Was definitly a tear jerker. I lost my little Spencer of 16years. Unless you have a deep bond with your dog you just dont understand. I swear I would not be here today if not for Spencer. I lost him back in April. So this movie definitly hit hard for me.

Lee. First I gotta say. I have been watching u for about 3 maybe 4 years now. U are my favorite movie critic anyways I saw heart of the beast this past Monday AMC screen, unseen, and I thought it was an amazing film. Very heartfelt the story kept moving along. You did not get bored once or I should say I did not get bored once the characters which was mainly Brad Pitt and the dog character were great. There was only two supporting role roles and they were only on screen for what five or 10 minutes at the most honestly I think this movie maybe even win some awards just one downfall of this movie that I did notice I was not a big fan of a few of the CGI scenes, but since I was so engaged with the film, it did not take me out of the scene or scenes

I'm planning to skip this because I can't handle dogs being hurt. I love my dogs so much. I want to see it but that stops me.

@StaciNP 4 days ago

I agree with you. All I had to know is that there was a dog in the movie to go see it. Brad Pitt did pull this movie off well. When the Northern Lights started, I lost it. I was embarrassed. I sobbed from there on out and out of the theater. The ending was unexpected. I thought the dog had run to get help for James. I love how James put his dog first. After all, he's a breathing, living being. Pets can feel sadness, grief, pain, jealousy, anger..everything we can. They are also smart and know how to communicate to us.

The most amazing thing is seeing New Zealand landscapes fill in for Alaska and we are none the wiser.

A dog and his man. For my wife's sake, I’ll watch the movie with her. I hope she doesn’t want to adopt a dog afterwards (we already have 4 cats). Fortunately, Brad Pitt isn’t adoptable ;)
