It's funny in hindsight how watching this series as a child ended up getting me into a career in Railway History and eventually brinigng it full circle by writing my dissertation on the very topic of the Australian Rail Gauge Crisis of WWII that this episode covers, diving deep into the Australian archives and political papers to deeply examine how state rivalry exacerbated a major transportation issue.

watching these today for a huge nostalgia hit from watching a VHS of this full doco over and over as a child. I can't thank you enough for uploading these.

Come forward to 2026, and little has changed, Queensland and Tasmania still on narrow gauge, Victoria using a combination of broad and standard gauge as too South Australia and parts of Western Australia still using narrow gauge, so we have done virtually nothing since the WW-II railway gauge issues across Australia.
