80s' Mad Max Rip-offs That Are Actually Worth Watching

One of these movies had the exact same plot as an Oscar-nominated film — twenty-three years earlier. Another one starred the biggest actor on the planet and still completely bombed. And one was directed by a guy who made a hundred and twenty adult films in three years. These are the most entertaining Mad Max ripoffs the 80s ever produced.

Salute of the Jugger was the UK title for Blood of Heroes.

I was expecting Warrior of the Lost World (1983) to pop up. It stars Robert "The Exterminator" Ginty, Persis Khambatta, Fred Williamson and Donald Pleasance. It's got plenty of explosions and quite a surprising ending.

Even while Blood of the heroes is criminally underrated, it became a cult classic and the sport called "Jugger" is played in places like Europe

I love these cheesy movies, your channel is a fun backstage in the world of B movies.
Mad Max original is still one of my all time favorite flicks.
So ripp-off's are on my watch list.
Keep it up

“Hell Comes to Frogtown” w/Roddy Piper and Sandahl Bergman is my personal favorite Mad Max-Esque flick. So bad it’s so good.

Yup. Blood of Heroes was great. At our highschool, it was THE must see underground VHS release. It sas always checked out at the video store, so i have a 3rd generation copy

Thanks for the list. I once had a bootleg VHS of Blood of Heros back in 1989, it was a favorite.

2020 Texas Gladiators sounds like the plot of Wasteland, just less scifi. In Wasteland you played Desert Rangers, whose goal was to make the wasteland safe for everyone

I once spent a Saturday afternoon watching "Exterminators in the Year 3000" on the long defunct Channel 48 out of Philly back in 1985 while visiting my grandparents. Even though it was an obvious (and poorly done) knockoff of "Road Warrior" my 13-year old self thought it was pretty rad, especially the car the scruffy hero drove, the 1973 Mercury Montego MX done up with every post-apocalyptic bolt-on you could imagine.
