I’m watching this in 2024 and remembering all the artists who have passed away. Michael Barrymore an incident happened in 1999 that ruined his career. He was so good. How sad. Seeing this program we can certainly see into their future. Cilla Black died in Spain fell over and laid on her balcony and died through heat stroke. I’m so glad then they couldn’t see into the future. Very sad watching this. Michael now lives in Spain a broken man. RIP all the performers that have now gone you entertained us all and we will never forget you.😢
Have seen Brian Conley do his show a couple of times.....he was absolutely brilliant - had the audience laughing from the moment he came on stage......at end of the show he did his singing - awesome singer and performer.
i think this was the last great royal variety show we had - awesome in places, of course shirley at the end popping up from the stage at the end was great too!
Michael Barrymore 1 of the most versatile gifted all round entertainers as this legendary routine he did on the Royal Variety shows perfectly - l mean this routine was quite shall we say him pushing it at moments to very near the line of what he could have got away with but that was a part of what was his appeal in similar way to say Freddie Star as Cilla said unpredictable and just naturally funny with it. But you notice the difference then to now l mean that entire routine he did including the part with the woman on his lap her the audience etc. were roaring in laughter and loved it - in today's pathetic times you would probably get some making a complaint about it. But yeah he had it all easily 1 of the best back then this country had of tv all round entertainers and then 1 night and the stupid things he did straight after he totally put a self destruct to that all in an instant. But this whole routine right to the very end with the soldiers and the way the great comedic way they incorporated them into the performance this is sadly the heartwarming spectacular the Royal Variety once was but hasn't been for a long time and no way would you see it in the ones of today, why it's best days are far behind it!
Many thanks for this lovely video.THAT'S what "ENTERTAINMENT used to be. Good comedians, lovely dancers, fine singers, ....It makes todays entertainers , with Smutty comedians, Loud and Incomprehensible singers, and Pyrotechnic Bands, a pleasure to TURN OFF !Thanks
I wonder if Lulu and Maurice Gibb had a catch up chat behind the scenes, they used to be married, showing my age now haha, really enjoyed this, thank you for sharing 😍😊
