Dragonfly are the smartest insect in the world, they leave us alone, does it job, eats pest. They are the most beloved insect in the world.

They annihilate mosquitoes! I absolutely love dragonflies

You talked a lot about the adult dragon-flies but it's also worth noting that even dragon-fly larva are apex predators. By the numbers, they are some of the most effective predators on the face of the planet throughout their entire life cycle.

"Nobody bullies a wasp" The humble super colony ant

Because dragon flys look like Apache helicopters

You can actually exploit this. Wasps aren't the only things that are terrified of dragonflies. I have a bright yellow kayak with about a dozen black dragonfly silhouette stickers spread out across it. It's not for looks. Having those high contrast stickers drastically reduces the likelihood that a deer or horse fly lands on me and bites. It doesn't do much for mosquitoes but that makes sense because I don't think they have great eyes

So dragonflies are literally flying high school physics problems

I have watched Dragon flies kill wasps on several occasions.
None of those times were to eat them.  They simply killed them to get them out of the way.
The Dragon flies were hovering, watching something in the water, and the wasps hovered underneath them.
The Dragon flies drop down bite the wasps heads off with an audible "click" and instantly return to their original hovering position.
It happens so fast you could blink slow and miss it.

POV you and your wasp homie are bullying some dumb ahh bumble bees when suddenly you hear a chitinous buzzing blast through your left ear hole so you turn to look only to hear the same buzzing above you then the crushing sound of your wasp homies skull being crushed immediately so you gen know you're cooked low diff so you highkey just accopt your fate.

This past summer I watched a small dragonfly methodically take out an entire swarm of gnats hovering over a shrub on my deck one gnat at a time.

Imagine being so goated that other species write you as a threat in their genes 😂

I'm never gonna look at dragon flies again the same way, I was scared of them, noe I'm just amused

"to us its just a cheap piece of platic" throw a fake spider at a person with severe arachnophobia

crazy thing is don't dragonflies spend most of their lives as aquatic larva things. they are just a menace their whole lives, take to the air to mate but terrorize wasp as a side quest.

I don't think giant hornets actively hunt dragonflies, but it is very interesting that wasps are afraid of them. One very important thing you missed was that a dragonfly have specialized neural circuits that connect visual information from their eyes to the motor systems controlling their wings. These circuits allow them to respond to moving prey and evade threats extremely quickly, without requiring the brain to consciously process every detail first.

They learned metavision

Dragonflies are so cool

BTW I learned this concept affects every single flying animal the ones more dynamic always win no matter the size/tools

He was a serial killer, who bragged about killing wasps! And he professed and confessed to be a demon!
He was that bro, if he wanted you outta air he'll go do it himself on wings by himself!

As someone that hates most insects and despises all arachnids, dragonflies are one of the very few insects I genuinely respect not out of fear but out of love. Their flight and hovers are an absolute marvel to look at, they have zero interest whatsoever in our homes and structures beyond being temporary perches, and they hunt the most vile bugs known to mankind with a level of efficiency that would give computers a run for their money.

It's genuinely the only insect I can call a friend without any hesitation, and I'd probably even try to befriend a meganeura-- actually on second thought that size might be just a bit too freaky up close, so nevermind, would just be content with looking at them from a distance instead.
