I really took my time on this one! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. What are your thoughts on this version of Charlie or any of the other ones? Let me know, I loved all the discussion that came from the previous video.

I felt the West End version had more of an identity than the tour, thought WE had the whole idea of imaginations and inventions whereas this production had moments of it but didn’t feel it carried through the whole thing

I’m not commenting on Charlie but the ASL inclusivity as I had to fangirl about it because it was my first time seeing ASL performance live (and it was in a Matilda community production). Ms. Phelps was played by a hard of hearing person but always signed as well as perform the lines and when I realized this was a deaf actress, my heart melted so much at the inclusivity and makes me wanna cry. Even Ms. Honey did asl for her final lines in tandem with Ms. Phelps. Not relevant to Charlie, but I just had to fangirl about it as I realize how awesome and warming it is to see ASL and deaf actors inclusivity.

Last week my big sister Charlotte (who works at Leeds Playhouse) told me that she heard some audience members theorising that Willy Wonka is Charlie from the future

One of my passion projects is to direct my own version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory either as a stop motion film or a revival of the Broadway version and I feel like with a few more rewrites it could reach the same status as Matilda the musical. Hopefully we could get more creative stage musical adaptation of Dahl’s work like The Witches or The BFG

I really wish there was a version as good as this in Brazil. when we have good productions like this, they only go to são paulo and rio de janeiro, never to other states in brazil. (yes there are other states besides rio and são paulo) i live in amazonas a state that most other countries do not know about Brazil. But that's okay, we're used to stereotypes. great video ellie, a hug from brazil!

When she said. I’ve always wanted to go to the leeds playhouse, i was shocked because i go every week

The tour was always at a disadvantage because of being compared to the West End version. You were right about the sets being a major reason for the adaptation, because the set pieces weighed over ten tonnes, meaning the Theatre Royal roof had to be reinforced. Transporting those sets to other theatres just wouldn't have been practical, hence the reduced sets.

I saw this show last week and I completely agree with you on everything! Left feeling a bit meh compared to other shows but I would recommend it and would go and see it again!

I’m seeing it tomorrow night

EDIT: I’ve wanted to watch it for 5 years and then my parents got me tickets

EDIT: it was so good

Lovely review! I see this on Thursday and I’m so exited!!! 🎉

I saw Charlie and the chocolate factory in the Netherlands and there were tons of differences! For one the Oompa Loompas were mimes

I’m going to see this production in February when it comes to Milton Keynes theatre. I loved the west end production!

A thoughtful review. Thanks!

I saw this show in Cardiff, absolutely loved it except for the 10 minute safety curtain but other than that, the Oompa Loompas change was great and some of the new songs I recognised from other versions. Absolutely amazing.

thanks for the thorough video, seeing it in March!

I think I could have forgiven the screens if we had at least one lavish set for the chocolate room. I understand the things this production had to consider but I at least wanted a grassy hill 😂

🎉love your work I would love to se more about Charlie or the little mermaid the musical there my favorites ❤

I watched it and then I got to on stage after the show and took a picture with Willy wonky and grandpa joe and they were great people

Yes!! I agree, give us all the trans excellence world, including you Ellie!! You are just always excellent  💗 (side note I wish I could do my eyes like yours!!)
