A hundred billion dollars was invested in VR so I can play Superhot a couple times at a friend’s house and then never touch the technology again

Valve has the most compelling pitch ever for the Steam Frame: "This is basically a Quest 3, but made by us instead of Meta".

The thing is, while the Steam Frame is gonna trash the Quest, the AI Bros that breathe RAM just might trash the Frame...

Fun anecdote about the Metaverse

I have a fully remote job, and the person I worked the most with was a huge believer in all things VR. Eventually I got a Quest 3 (Mostly for Beat Saber and Resident Evil VR)

When that happened he really wanted to try doing meetings in VR. We spend 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get in a room together in the official Meta meeting room things until we eventually had our meeting in VRChat in a recreation of the Black Sun club from Snow Crash

Mad respect for the unending clips of people in VR running into stuff or diving onto the floor lol

20:35 fun fact the stand isn't because of the weight. the designer wanted it to be wearable, but the higher ups were worried about liability if a kid ran across the street or something while wearing one

Every single time i see gameplay of RecRoom, I tear up. Almost 8 years ago now, I was just getting into VR, I was playing around in RecRoom and I met a guy that taught me some stuff.
He ended up being my absolute best friend, and I remember hours upon hours of lasertag, paintball, battle royale, and questing with him, eventually merting him irl, and everything just thanks to this game.
Rest in Peace, RecRoom, my beloved.

The great thing is that the Metaverse was meant to be decentralised and user-hosted, and yet it was spearheaded by the most centralised company possible

"Will make money by selling games" Ah yes..that's definitely it. Not the other thing...

I worked in a VR lab with several quest 2s back at college. It was mostly used for flight simulations and tours, but it was so far the best job I ever had. Here's hoping the Steam Frame does well!

"2x more pixels per eye than a tv has!" And yet every game still looks like your staring at a CRT screen

28:52 shoutout to aperture desk job for being the second most polished tutorial for a controller on the market. if i had a nickel for every time a company made an unreasonably polished tech demo about a very well animated robot to explain how to use a controller i’d have two nickels

17:30 reading what he’s done genuinely feels like looking at the backstory for a 2016 FPS story mode antagonist character

I'm begging the ai bubble to pop before the steam frame starts to exist so this can be fixed

@lioedevon4275 4 months ago

Fun fact: my game design teacher (who is a boomer) was considering taking a job with meta to work on developing the metaverse. Every single one of us told her not to do that lol. We helped her dodge a massive bullet. Anyways, hope she’s doing well. She was super cool and I loved when she showed us her goats

@Claydarby 3 months ago

Also, your example for using virtual desktop being playing no man’s Sky exclusively is the perfect metaphor

@nickolas78gr 4 months ago

I know a lot of people who saw the Frame as "finally it's time for me turn with VR" but now that the Steam Deck go its prices increased, I'm a little worried.
