0:10 as funny as the implication that the government spent billions studying space exploration before settling for the ocean is, to me it still doesn’t beat the idea that researchers got a glimpse of the commotion in the ocean and started looking into leaving earth altogether just to get away from it

I think the thing I took away from this video is that, if a condition has the words "Wasting Disease" in the name, it's automatically one of the most horrifying fates an animal can experience.

The killing them with 1 shot of vinegar seems like the end of the movie Signs. Like there's so much build-up for the easiest dumbest fix

Is this the unfounded horrors of the abyss?

No this is Patrick

I work with Nature's Nanny, a rehab that specializes in corvids, raptors and water birds in VA. I know you do occasional episodes to raise awareness and funds for wildlife..  I know it's a long shot, but I was hoping you'd consider working with us for a giving tues video. We are a pretty small program, depending solely on volunteers and donations. This year alone at the half way mark we have had over 200 birds come through the rehab. Our education program provides year round for nearly a dozen Ambassadors who can't be released. Currently we are investing in a secondary site, to expand our operations while building our presence online. It can be a bit difficult to build a niche as a smaller, home permitted operation but I would love to see our birds get the kind of awareness they deserve.

"It'll never NOT be Australia." Took the words right out of my mouth before I could say it!

Real talk, though, as horrific as sea stars are...

Those baby starfish are legitimately adorable...equally horrific, but adorable all the same.

Imagine walking through a park, brush your arm against a branch and suddenly you're the victim of a literal carnivorous Whomping Willow.

Bro just casually drops that a group of sea cucumbers is called a pickle. This shit is the most hilarious fact I've heard in years man.

So funnily enough, Patrick would irl be killed by his favorite condiments (they have vinegar in them)

"Do you know how sea stars feed, Spongebob?"

Nature: "Did I create you?"
Starfish and Co: "Maybe..."

Didn't know that starfish had such a brutal mortal kombat finishing move. Gotta be thankful there's no giant starfish that hunt humans.

I didn't have eldritch horror on my list for today, but here we are.

"Lovecraftian fidget spinner".  You, sir, are a poet.

honestly while I understand why people are freaked out by the ocean, and I wouldn't exactly be rushing to touch a sea star myself, I can't help but appreciate how cool evolution is that such unique creatures live in the ocean and have a completely different way of living compared to surface animals

After watching this, I now understand why a giant starfish was an antagonist in Courage the Cowardly Dog episode Muted Muriel .

…new horror arg idea: Starfish develop infections that can infect other beings, and humans, and eventually mutate things onto infected fish and sharks. Then maybe it’s revealed that aliens have control over it, and mutate legs onto the animals

"It will never not be Australia." 😂

Wonderful video.  I love the nicknames you come up with for animals.

"The now half-digested concept of you" 4:03 is a terrifying phrase, and will now be living rent free in my head, thanks Casual Geographic
