It boils my piss I think that a lot of those houses around there likes of Barley Clough Road in Aterclfiffe were fine and very habitable. It was almost as if the SCC just didn’t want to rent them any more. It must have cost more to destroy the than fix them up

Love this video. I had a walk on parkwood springs yesterday and looked up the history when I got home. I had no idea about the lost village, how fascinating. I love things like this. Such a shame it's gone, I can imagine what it was like. I hope I get chance to explore before the redevelopment. Thanks so much for making this x

On Wallace Road there used to be a steel fabrication company called Darwin & Bean Ltd - the Bean part was Sean Bean's dad Brian. I met Sean several times at this company that I used to visit carrying out inspection duties for Davy. Sean had a Saturday job there and his main job was to fetch sandwiches and mash tea for the welders - I had breakfast with him on a few occasions - my claim to fame!

I had a walk through there some years back. Fascinating and depressing at the same time.
This council has made and continues to make some very strange choices.
I mean, Parkwood Springs even had its own railway station!!

I go walking / bushcrafting at the old ski slope regularly, and can shed some light on a couple of things, if anyone is interested:

The fresh mound of earth and cuttings that you found were done to remove Japanese Knotweed that had taken over most of the lower slope down to the road. The various bits of recent digger devastation are from that.

The rooms sunk into the ground are the cellars of what used to be the chalet at the bottom of the main ski slope.

On the north side of vale road (on the right as you turn onto it from Douglas road), there are still doorsteps and bits of foundation visible just under fence that runs next to the path.

The lake feeds into a water treatment station further down, it catches groundwater that seeps out of the landfill. That has a road which runs off in the direction of Ward's End, but loops back up to the top of the hill again.

at the corner of Mount rd and Pickering rd, in the wood, there is a spoil heap from the demolition that still has bits of an old gas fireplace in it. There used to be an old-timey clothes iron in there too, the kind you had to heat up by the stove.

I thank the makers of this video for bringing back memories of when I was a Britanic Assurance man; i it was a part of my round back in about 1970 in those days, I drove an A35 van. The people who lived there were "The very salt of the earth people." I collected weekly payments on Saturdays. In my childhood days, it was my playground on the other side of Park Wood, where it met Rutland Road.

It's so bloody unfair that people were made to leave their homes for nothing. Nothing was built there (aside from the ski village later on). It was just left. Why didn't they leave the people in their homes, if they weren't going to do anything with it? Those old terraces are often rock solid and perfect, as long as their upkeep is regular. I guess the council decided fancy new concrete housing was better (before realising it wasn't and having to knock that down too). Disgraceful to uproot people from their area for absolutely no reason. It makes me so sad to see the streets and the remains of what was a beautiful area.

Gave me some flashbacks to Sheffield in the 70s - I remember acres of terraced houses being demolished, and the concrete lampposts. Another memory came back because of the litter you saw - we went to see Dad's lovely Auntie Ada in her flat near the Ponderosa, and she'd bought some Duraflex slippers. Me and my brother nearly died trying not to laugh because Auntie Ada kept calling them "durex".

Thanks for that 2nd look, Joe. I used to live at the top of Mount Rd back in the 70s, and my Great Grandparents used to have a small shop about ½ way down Mount Rd on the right. An interesting estate which housed some proper characters. It opened my eyes as I was only 17y/o.

Lived on Pye Bank Rd as a kid in the 60s to the 80s and we used to go over Parkwood Springs from Rutland Rd to Parkwood village. I remember a little shop as we got sweets from there but can’t remember the people who ran it. On occasional summer evenings my parents would walk my brother and I over to the rec to play and then they would have a drink at the Douglas Hotel. I remember when they started to knock down the houses as we used to play in the part demolished buildings until it was all flattened. Late teens and we rode our motorbikes on the old rec and the hills nearby. I skied a couple of times and used the bar often when the Ski Village was in full swing and took my son when he as a youngster to play on the adventure playground that I suspect was the wooden structure in this video. The roads have become extremely overgrown since the Ski Village closed. I saw the fire from the city centre when it went up the first time. Shame it closed as it was a good attraction.

One of the reasons it was used for landfill was that it had been a quarry in the 16th and 17th centuries and had previously been much taller and imposing over Sheffield city centre

Last time I paid a visit up to see remains of ski village quite a few years now when I cleaned windows at Frogsons Oil. There was travellers set up opposite the ski village gates. Think they moved down to Wardsend near old cemetary.
