I love how Half of Japan's history just sounds like Hell for literally no reason other than tradition

Japan : we don’t have different races to oppress so we made up a class to oppress

That’s stupid. You can cut down a man but not a horse? People really do come up with the dumbest things to taboo.

curious why making leather, putting down injured animals and executions are all deemed the same, but fishing and making sushi isn't

fun fact is that india has the same cruel caste system tho it was abolished in 1930's around but it still exists and is deeply rooted to indian society but if u live in modernised cities of india like Delhi Mumbai Banglore or etc u will find it very less as people there not care about caste BUT in village the whole story is different u know.

Yep, this kind of thing definitely happened not only in Japan, but also other parts of the world and it's really screwed up.

I think that's the most sick thing about this. Is the fact that all those documents went underground and although they can't officially be used, and it was officially abolished, they still use those bloodlines and ancient caste systems to discriminate today And there's nothing they can do about it which is the worst part

Btw this class (can't even call it that) came from feudal stuffs born from the shogunate (because of Buddhism and shintoism). After the shogunate was overthrown the meiji state abolished all caste and made japanese adopt last names.

Before meiji restoration people were not allowed to move across domains but after meiji restoration everyone from every domain moved around and mixed.

It's a functionally extinct class of a bygone era

Why was leather maker such a frowned upon skill

How stupid to treat people so badly who you literally need to do that job.

Humans fear death, and this is a story inspired by that ancient, primal fear.

Well done, seems like these videos keep getting better and better.

Humans can be so cruel.

Murdering someone just because you made a blunder is the most shameful thing a warrior can do

We still have that in rural Japan no matter how much we say we don’t.  I wast allowed to play with those kids from the buraku family

Literally just for being a tanner..... wow.

Thanks for the new vid!
Can you do one about Renaissance courtesans, please?

No offense to Japanese customs, but to hold against someone something that an ancestor did hundreds f years ago doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

They say even buddha refused to look at them, but interestingly buddha refused the castly order in India and laid foundation of a religion which in the mid 19 century gave refuge to lakhs of such low caste born people to be free from Hindu societal oppression. Humans are such strange animals, use gods for their benifit and ideals as convenience.

5:49 Im confused.  Cutting off a peasant's head, too dirty. Cutting off another samurai's/noble's head on a battlefield:  Thats a trophy and should be packed in a box to present your lord. Make it make sense.
