It's not the end of the world. Not yet.

i've always interpreted the figures being mannequin like grey forms as ralph dehumanizing them in his own mind to feel less bad about it. if they look like people, then they're people. but if they're just shapes, then he can do what he must, even if it hurts.

I love Johnny as a character. Like, "compassion in the face of monstrosity," is SO hard to do well, and many things have tried and failed. And i think they way they portray Johnny's compassion as being strained and coming later is BRILLIANT. It comes AFTER the realization that hes stuck forever, rather than that realization breaking his initial compassion. And it comes off less as truly just "feeling bad," for Ralph, and more "pitying the man that existed before all this monstrosity." Its frankly realistic, and doesnt cheapen the captor/captive dynamic.

I like the fact that you added the part of "your victim cannot consent" not only for the obvious reasons, but also that it is legitimately important to note when analysing the dynamics of their relationship. Noting how the relationship is very one-sided n terms of power and affection is important to understand, rather than just simplifying it to a basic friendship/enemies to lovers arc.

The voice acting is so SO very insanely good. Seeing that good ending, seeing johnny and Ralph talk for the last time, seeing the pure emotion actually present through every single word actually brought tears to my eyes. Wonderful voice actors and a wonderful story.

The reason why we can hear Ralph's name at the end is because we're no longer playing as Ralph. He is dead. We're hearing Johnny's thoughts, so we're playing from Johnny's perspective, and he has no issues hearing Ralph's name.

Apparently the "I love you" was improvised on the part of Ralph's VA, cuz apparently it just felt right for him to say it then, and for Johnny not to reciprocate.

"So I stereotyped the drummer as the most replaceable, and I was absolutely right" Man... personal attack.

I highkey really love that Johnny never said he loved Ralph back. He never forgot what he‘s done to him, even after all the "kindness"

he'll watch whole seasons of shows on his phone with him but won't give the dude a pillow

One thing I like about the self-sacrifice ending is that it doesn't do the "victim perpetuates the circle of violence" route that sometimes happens with stories like these.

As fucked up as it is, can you imagine cracking through a serial killer's psyche to the point where you've convinced him to stop the ritual killings, maybe finally ending the cycle of death and violence, if not for you, for others, only for the news to report that the ground fucking liquified because the killings stopped?

I like the parallel of visual language of Johnny being blinded with how often Ralph's eyes are illustrated as black and empty voids

God, the story of this game is honestly fantastic, like everyone else I LOVE that Johnny doesn’t say “I love you”, because he doesn’t. He could never love the man who took and ate his life away. It’s such a refreshing break from Stockholm syndrome works

There is a game about making saw traps. It's an old rpgmaker game that i don't remember the name of. The story is about a community of people who do the saw thing to make and share snuff recordings. The success is measured by slowly depleting their sanity and health along the way but only finishing either off just before the escape. The weirdest thing for me was when a couple of years ago i described it in a twitter thread without naming it and the dev replied. It could give me a fright if we weren't on opposite sides of the world. I think he's a psychiatrist, which makes sense with the theme.

19:28 The whole "If I don't do that specific thing the world will end." also reads very OCD to me (of course in a very twisted and exaggerated way in the actions of the protagonist)

Fun fact, Zimforth also appears in another game from this developer, Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator. You can do a quest involving him.

Oh god. Zimforth did it out of revenge. Making them wait until the last minute, they knew it was Johnny who planted the idea. Zimforth is the abusive, controlling partner. They might not love Ralph, but they also would not want to be disobeyed either. Regardless of the outcome, Zimforth would have gotten what they wanted, and that was Ralph never disobeying them again. Oh that is twisted.

Something I find really interesting is that Zimforth, even after the one year limit where Ralph fails to provide sacrifices, doesn't end the world immediately. Sure, he fucks shit up- but on a relatively small scale for a god of his stature. This, to me, suggests one of two things:

A) Zimforth either enjoys the sacrifices too much to give them up immediately, or straight up NEEDS the sacrifices to survive

B) Zimforth cannot end the world immediately. It is simply not within his power.

Either one of these possibilities make the ending of the world unlikely in the good ending imo. Probably someone else gets chosen as Zimforths prophet. Ralph was not a particularly extraordinary individual and there's no shortage of people (especially middle aged ish people) in deep enough despair to do it.

I honestly didn't expect the voice acting to go so goddam hard. I loved the way Ralph's va potrayed him.
For a rather small game with a simple gameplay loop, the story itself, the both sad and toxic relationship as Ralph on one side doesn't want to let Johnny go and Johnny being forced on this ride purely out of making one "bad" choice.
