The way it took 30 red flags for Veronica to realize she is sleeping with a serial murderer

The line "I LOVE MY DEAD GAY SON!" will always love rent-free in my soul

My interpretation of why Heather Prime went through with the sex act despite clearly not wanting to highlights her devotion to the social pecking order. She's the queen of high school, and that means that everyone must do as she desires at all times. A college guy is above her in social status tho, thus she doesn't feel she has any option to deny his desires. It highlights the pointlessness of all her cruelty as she's sustaining a system that also harms her, but would rather suffer than give up what little power she has.

“Do we need a 3hr long Heathers?” while introducing an 1hr 11min long video on an 1hr 43 min movie…

One thing about color theory. is that veronica wore blue, one of the three primary colors while Heather 3 wore green, a secondary color. It was visual representation of the hierarchy of their friend group with green heather being at the bottom.

Part of the issue with people watching this for the first time now is that they don't usually realize how much the time period affects humor, pop culture references, etc.

This was a time before mass school shooting incidents before most people knew or understood a lot about mental health (suicide, eating disorders, and so on).

This was a time when most pop culture and media, most of society in general, took sexism, racism, ableism, bodyshaming, and anti-gay  behavior for granted.

To a certain extent,  this movie called all of it out as being wrong and hateful and stupid. It did so using black humor and broad exaggerated stereotypes on purpose.

It flopped at theatres at least partly because it wasn't marketed properly,  but also because it was too soon for most people.

They didn't get it. Or they did, and realized it was kinda indicting them and their terrible hypocrisy, the -isms, the status BS, the style over substance consumerist agenda of the 80s.

It's hard to love a movie showing you all the ways you suck. Or society sucks. Or high school sucks. It really depends on where you fit in the dynamic and how much you get what they were saying.

Watching this after the youth violence we have all experienced, it has a different effect.

This is especially true because we are also in a post-9/11 world, where knocking a building down means something more visceral to us.

Add that to the fact that we are more informed about psychology and live in a much more openly inclusive society (pre-cheeto), and you see where this movie gets a different spin now. More drama, less comedy.

I'm glad you picked it and brought out these points.

Veronica being so down bad for JD the whole movie annoyed me but I can’t judge that much because Christian Slater is fine af.

the fact that they are highschool students makes it work, JD's cringy edginess, Veronica's stupid decisions and the other ridiculous parts

The casting alone for Heathers was IMMACULATE! No notes! 😭👏🏽

I fully think Heather C didn't wanna give head but felt she had to. I also think that's part of what makes her so angry at Veronixa. Veronica had enough wherewithal to turn him down. Heather didn't.

You gotta see the Heather's musical babes. It's so good.

Heathers walked so Jawbreaker could run and Mean Girls could fly!!!! I still quote this movie 30+ years later…”f*ck me gently with a chainsaw” will never not be classic 😂😂😂

About Heather Duke reading Moby Dick. Originally, the creators wanted her to read The Catcher in the Rye. However, Salinger's estare didn't give them permission. So they went with Moby Dick because that was in the public domain.

Time for my monthly one woman production of Heathers: The Musical I guess

Zane Parker? Heathers? I’m sat.

I didn’t watch this movie until I was an adult so this may have colored my opinion, but Heather Chandler was always kind of sad to me. The events of the college party really illustrated exactly how insecure and self-loathing she was, especially when she spits at herself in the mirror.

16:33 "not u sleeping with the school shooter the first day u met him" im screaming ‼️‼️

9:12  I started cackling at that scene the first time I watched Heathers & told my sister JD gives me fedora energy. I couldn't take him seriously the rest of the movie cause I'd imagine him wearing a fedora.

a wonderful little detail about her souper slide note is that its written in blue, and if you have eyes you can see this movie has very strong color coding. its as if no one pays attention enough in universe to the details of anything and thats why society is so vain

I looove Heathers ! My favorite line was “lick it up, baby, lick it up!” I truly hope you’re able to do Jawbreaker—the color scheme and fashion alone is immaculate

I’m 52 and was in highschool when this came out. It was insanely popular in my group of friends; I think I watched it a dozen times that year alone. I remember my mom telling me that she had heard some other parents saying they were concerned that the movie “glamorized” gons and wiolance, but my mom defended the movie saying: “if you pay attention, the movie is doing the opposite.”  ❤
