One of the greatest voices in Rock N Roll history. Idolized by Elvis, Beatles, etc. One of the greats.

You should also give the studio version a listen. This live version is quite good, but obviously the studio version shows better how he sounded when he was younger. He was also in the Traveling Wilburys before his death in 1988.

Definitely should check out The Traveling Wilburys - Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (ELO), Bob Dylan and George Harrison.

Roy Orbison, three fun pieces of trivia:
1. The Beatles hated having Roy as their opening act because they didn't want to follow him on stage.
2. Whoever your favorite singer of the 70s or 80s is, Roy Orbison is THEIR favorite singer.
3. His trademark sunglasses look came about because he forgot his prescription glasses on the plane when flying to England to tour with the Beatles and all he had was his prescription sunglasses. People seeing him wear sunglasses everywhere (even indoors and at night) made such a strong impression that he became known for it and kept doing it for the rest of his career.

Roy was Elvis' favorite singer. The Beatles toured with him in the early 60s, when he was the headliner. He was a member of the super group, The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan. You know you are a legend when your backing band is Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Brown, Tom Wait, Elvis Costello, and other legends.

The back up singer closest to the camera is k.d. lang. Please check out her singing this at Roy's memorial. She also did a duet of this song with Roy before his death

Wonderful voice! He wrote 'Blue Bayou', covered  by Linda Ronstadt, which you reacted to recently 🤩

For me..i grew up listening to him wwhen i was a kid in the 60's.. Pretty Woman,  Only the Lonely, Blue Bayou and Crying were my fav.
Roy is older here, and still a great voice.

Once heard a quote about Orbison that was something like "he sang every note like it was the last one he'd ever sing." Pretty spot on.

Fun Fact: Elvis Presley did not want to play in the same city on the same day that Roy Orbison would perform because he felt Roy was the better musician and that fans would rather go see Roy than himself.

Listen to k.d. lang's (she uses all lower case) version from the Roy Orbison tribute. They had done a duet of this song that made this song a hit for him a second time. His family asked her to sing it and she received a 4 minute standing ovation. Her voice is incredible.

Pretty woman,  The Travelering Wilburys

I was fortunate to see Roy Orbison at the Austin Aquafest in 1988 a few months bf he passed. It was an outdoor venue and very crowded. There was total silence when he performed this song, I remember having goosebumps when he sang, it was so incredible. What a talented human.

I first heard Roy Orbison in 1960 when his hit "Only the Lonely" from my brother's record collection became my favorite song.  I was 9 yrs old and my brother, off to college was 19.  We still like a lot of the same music today! ❤

I love how you are educating yourself on the music and experiencing it for the first time. Big shout out for actually obsorbing it. You just not only remembered a ELVIS song but sang a little. Ive been watching you since the beginning and Id bet money you couldnt do THAT a year ago. Enjoy your channel more every day.

"Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black and White Night" took place in January 1988 in LA, with Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne and James Butler (Presley's lead guitarist) among others on stage, performing as a band, as well as K.D. Lang and Bonnie Raitt (and Jeniffer Warnes) providing background vocals. The audience included people like Kris Kristofferson, David Lynch, Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Idol, etc. One of the greatest concert films of all time, probably available everywhere now.

Roy Orbison was his own music genre and very unique artist and true music legend.  I first heard of him when I was grade school in 1970s.  Saw him in concert only once.  This video was celebration of his career by a bunch of Hollywood and Music Celebrities  like Springsteen, Costello, playing and singing back-up on this song.

He does this in a great duet with K.D Lang. Their voices together are sublime.

The Beatles first #1 hit, Please Please Me, is inspired by Roy Orbison.

K.D. Lang does an amazing job on this song too! She performed it to honor Roy Orbison. Crying is a very difficult song to perform vocally. Many vocalists don’t have the range.
