When I was drinking I would wake up every morning at 4:10 a.m. with the 4 horsemen. Hungover, uncontrollable tremors, feeling like I was having a heart attack and the only way to feel "normal" was another drink.I would go in the backyard so my husband wouldn't hear me vomiting as I attempted to try and get enough vodka down to stop freaking out and get ready for work. Every day for years. Thankfully I've been sober since 1997. You sharing your experience is helpful to many. TY!

You are right mr Bat.....it's different for all of us. I never ever drank at work....but the moment I walked through the door home I opened and drank whatever it was  I was drinking at that time.  Or I had sick days so I could drink, I was miserable and lonely and sad but couldn't stop. My husband worked away so only home at weekends so for years he didn't realise.  I don't drink anymore,  it still calls me sometimes and I have to remember how awful it really is , my life at 62 is the best it has been my husband and I are happy.  I still have to struggle against the urge sometimes. I think I always will, listening to you, knowing it's not just me helps . Everything is better without alcohol x

I’m from Russia, and alcoholism is everywhere here, and the cases of alcoholism here are extremely ugly and very obvious. I had no idea that I have a problem, until I’ve watched an interview with a creator who got sober after being an alcoholic for most of her life (she tried alcohol in childhood, because there was no water in their home, but there was beer, so her father gave it to a literal child, and that jump-started the addiction). And she was a really late-stage alcoholic, and she pointed out that she didn’t start like this, it took her a long time to get to this point, and I found a lot of signs to match my relationship with drinking. Your video cemented that match, I am currently sober for half a year, and I try to reevaluate myself and figure out where my addiction ends and I begin…

less than a month until my first full sober year and i was teetering on the perilous edge of “functional” alcoholism. i’m glad i was forced to stop when i was. just abt to celebrate my first sober christmas!!

Just recently got my first (and last) DUI, was a serious slap in the face that helped me understand that I do indeed have a problem and need help... 14 days sober now

Unfortunately for me, I got sober in my 60s. Not much time left to enjoy it . I guess it's better than dying drunk in puddle of piss .

Keeping a job/career where you can take a 6 week sabbatical, show up obviously reaking of alcohol is so rare. More places are getting more tolerable with taking time off to get better but its still rare. Most people cant take extended time off and sadly lose their job. Addiction sucks hard.

My husband would wake up and shake and vomit in the middle of the night. I’d go and hold his hair and get him water and give a courtesy flush, and not say a word against him. He would just yell at me for it.

I'm only 8 days sober but 8 more days than I've had the past year. Feeling great already, my husband still drinks and I thought that'd trigger me actually doesn't at all. He's not an alcoholic, I am. But seeing him crash from his buzz needing a nap by 8pm is all the reminder I need to keep sober. I'm no longer sleeping til noon, have been waking up fresh 7am each morning and no longer hate myself.

I can’t believe how much personal power you had while drinking. Moving around the world, having jobs wherever, having friends and doing cool things, working out in the morning regardless of being hammered. You still got girlfriends. No wonder it was so hard for you to get and stay sober.
