Remember the tree's might speak Vietnamese but the snow, speaks Finnish

Bro im loving this hour + format

If even Finnish troops fear something then you know something is up

Dude back to back? This is so amazing I’m glad to see more uploads nowadays

Finally! As a Swede I've been waiting for your or Bedtime stories to post something about the nordics. We got so much folklore and some of the deepest wilderness in Europe. Just makes sense we'd have stories

The second story is a "hiisi". Translated directly to English you would think "goblin". In Finnish we think (in fantasy terms) shadow troll/giant. This is not a "bigfoot", it is a manifestation of the will of the forest. I never encountered one myself, but i know the lower level spirits out there in the northern European woods. These things have never harmed a human-being as far as records are concerned, just acknowledge and do not outright disrespect.

"Come my friends.  The Ents are going to war."

Norway, Sweden and Finland all have stories about trolls/giants that are deeply ingrained in their cultural heritage and still have quite large stretches of wilderness that hardly ever see any humans where people claim to have seen something. And when Finnish troops are getting wary you know something is up

My father, who was a Sargeant in the Second Tett Offensive in Vietnam (his time spent '68-'69/'70) told me this: there are some things in this world you will never comprehend why it exists and if you don't believe me stay out in the woods, deserts, mountains- ect then come back tell me if you still question it. Which pretty much told me he saw some things out there he could not explain (save what to poor guy was faced with going out there :/  )

7:26 the Troll poster is a top tier nod!! Great movie

Back in the 90s I used to live in Cuba along with my parents and a sister. My dad was a pilot so he was most of the time out flying. One day, on my early teens, me and my sister were sitting down on the floor in my bedroom while my mom was standing, using an ironing board. Me and my sister were playing with cards and at one point I heard my mom screaming; “what the hell is that!”. I looked up and saw my sister looking towards a window facing us and followed her. The window was closed, but it had a half moon broken corner at the bottom left and right there was a distorted mass of white and red moving in like a spiral motion. In a fraction of a second it spiraled faster and started making like a bububububuuuu scream! After the scream a whooshing sound was emitted by it and disappeared like running towards the left side of our backyard. I instantly got up and rushed to the back yard but didn’t see anything there. For years I always wondered what it was. My sister one day, many years later told me that it was a gnome. I didn’t believe her because what I saw was a mass, but she insisted that it was a gnome and that he had been watching us for a while until it realized that my sister could see him and that’s when it started to freak out and to distort. Now I do remember my sister always talking about seeing little people around the house but I never believed her until that day! There is more to this world than what we see! I love this channel by the way! I’m a former navy corpsman.

The third story is what we call the landwights or landvaettir. In Irish folklore, they're known as the aos sidhe. They are treated like a joke or as something silly if you're outside the culture. Make no mistake that these things can and will fuck you up if given the chance.

Ask me how I know. I live across the street from a sacred site that was desecrated during the Revolutionary War. I tried to spend the night up there and I was very deliberately made to feel unwelcome.

Glad to hear your voice is begun to heal. Continued prayers for you and your family.

I grew up near the border, and spent my youth in those woods, to say its quiet there. Is an understatement, particular in winter. Never saw or heard anything weird, except the odd wolf comming over from Russia. But I can understand that people comming here, from the south, finds the strange or unsetteling, before they get used to it

My grandma died on 9/11, not on the day but 2024. She owned an Italian restaurant in manhattan and spent days after feeding any and all men and women that got hurt that day. Luke even though you might not know you are like the fuckin light at the end of a dark dark tunnel for us. May God be with you brother.

Its Simo Hayha still on patrol in monster form, making sure the Russians know their place in the woods.

About the gnomes (Vättar, Tomtar or the small ones under the ground depending on where in Sweden you are." When I was a kid back in the 1980s, older folks would say that if something you have lost just "turns up" out of nowhere, just say thank you out loud as it is likely the small folk you found it and gave it back to you. Old folklore around here says that if you treat the small folk well and are polite to them, they will help you. If you treat them poorly, well don't say I didn't warn you ;)

The "Rå" (pronounce similarly to "Roe" in English) are pretty fascinating imho. They're somewhere in between being spirits and corporeal being, and you have different kinds. So for example a common on is "Skogsrå / Forest-Rå" who resides in woodland, but you also have "Sjörå / Lake-rå" or the "Bergsrå / Mountain-rå".  And the Rå are both territorial but also protective of the woods almost in the same way a human would be regarding their own house or property without actually thinking or having distinct personalities like humans would. So for example if you've angered the Skogsrå by doing something irresponsible like cutting down trees and just leaving them there without using the logs for anything useful, or maybe even starting a forest fire, then the Skogsrå will either kill you or someone close to you. But generally they won't hurt or kill you just for entering their territory, like they don't really kill for fun or anything like that.

Vättar (They're vaguely similar to goblins, but not like the modern Hollywood kind of goblin) on the other hand are corporeal, usually dress in gray unwashed rags and they're very mischievous like the Swedish soldier describe. They live underground often a short distance away from smaller humans settlements like farms or very small villages. Sometimes they can even burrow and live under the house itself, but that's a lot rarer. And basically if you treat them right they'll only pull little pranks on you, and maybe steal a thing here or a thing there. Like nothing major, usually a piece of food you were saving or a piece of clothing (ever wonder where those socks that disappear in the laundry machine end up? 😉) or that 10mm socket that just disappeared all of a sudden. However like the soldier says in the video, if you piss them off they may not be able to kill you outright, but they'll be hellbent on ruining your life.

I really like Nordic folklore creatures because they're very different from modern cryptids but they're still plausible in the same way that a lot of cryptids are, if that makes sense.

When the Finnish. The masters of the forest are startled by something. Then something is definitely out there and definitely wrong

I was 19 years old when I was conscripted into the army and have to do night patrol around an ammunition facility in the middle of a forest on a secluded island. And it was TOTALLY DARK, the trees and leaves blocked all moonlight, and the occasional weird noises by wild animals, super creepy. I always jumped whenever the twigs or dried leaves snapped suddenly nearby.
We patrolled in pairs too and the only thing we had were batons and shields and torchlights.
