Really liked the point that a strategy can still be sound even when one game misses. Game dev discourse has a bad habit of treating the outcome as retroactive proof that the whole process was either brilliant or stupid. The part about getting out of the “game dev vacuum,” shipping, and letting real feedback update the strategy is probably what stuck with me most. A process you can actually execute, learn from, and repeat seems a lot more valuable than finding the mythical “correct” way to make games. Until of course i succeed and make videos about how to succeed lol

This is what happens when you get lucky with one title, get overconfident, and start thinking you cracked the code. You pump out low-effort games as quickly as possible, with no real soul behind them, and this is the result you should expect. If you want to keep playing the lottery and hoping one of them randomly hits, go ahead.

Great episode! Looking forward to the 2 million revenue intro for next episode 😁

LOL I'd give anything to see the chart of how many games have been released by all the negative commenters who are criticizing the guy actually making games 🤣

Anyway as another budding game dev, thanks for the interview, these are always insightful!

I thoroughly enjoy your podcast. It's really great to see different perspectives on how indie game developers work and managing the business side. The experiment that Thornity and Aarimous did may not have turned out how they expected but they still made money so...

Looking at orb breaker it seems most of the negative reviews were mad that it was a bullethell😂

I've read A Series Of Unfortunate Events! Another great episode, the chemistry is great!

There's a survivor horror game in that cemetery walk somewhere

I watched a series of unfortunate events, cool show

I find incremental games so heartless. I'll never make one.

Who doesn’t like pies 23:09

Can someone explain me why the game "How to Fish" is so successful ?

I understand that Thornity's approach and mindset in making games is offputting to many people, it certainly is for me to a degree. Nonetheless I don't think he should be receiving the hate I'm seeing in a couple of the other comments here. He is shipping work and being very public with his process, that should be commended. Not everyone has to make games in the same way or for the same reasons and we should encourage different perspectives and give devs some grace if everything does not go according to plan.

Thorny why you no livestream anymore

I told you they will flop. Your 1 out of 10 example only is case after you make 10 game.

Do not think like loser. Or will be a loser. I will quit working for you if I hear my boss say “I’m happy with the numbers for me, idk about other guy”

Nooooo. I want my whole team to succeed.

Be angry you fail. Not happy.

Please change your thinking. Love you bro

I see so many poisonous, comments  full of resentment. If you want to make games for the artistic expression, do it. If someone enjoys the business side, let them. Listen, learn but instead you came here to leave unfunded opinionated, high horse comments. Grow up.
And to the hosts, thanks for the podcast! it's always a good listen.

At this point make a weekly podcast with Thornity and call it "The Beauty and the Beast"
