That car is a prime example of the MG-B at its best -  pre-smog, pre-5MPH bumpers, wire wheels, overdrive, and the cherry on top, it's painted BRG !

I bought my MGB Mk2 in Australia in 1968, it cost $3,500:00.  My uncle in Sydney worked for BMC and advised me to wait until the Overdrive model was produced, which I did.  Overdrive is very useful for the long distances we have in Australia.  The old girl is now in her 58th year of ownership with me.

Funny story…my father bought a leftover 1976 MGB in 1977 and the little British Leyland emblem on the right fender was mounted upside down. I assume as a distress signal.

One good thing about the mg is that you can still buy all the original parts new.

The old joke in the 2000s I heard was that British Motors originally had the perfect electric car design before TESLA.  Unfortunately the engineers had to abandon the prototype because they couldn't figure out how to make it leak oil.

In 1973 I was in college on Lookout Mountain Tennessee. For a few extra bucks I delivered cars for a foreign car dealer in Chattanooga. We delivered across the South,Volvos,Mercedes,MG,etc. EVERY time,I mean every time,I drove a British car I would break down and be stranded. The best trick was when it got dark and you turned on the lights, the motor would die.And this was a new car straight from he factory. Years later I heard Click and Clack the radio car repair guys say the the chief electrical engineer for Britain was nick-named "The Prince of Darkness." Sounded right.

I owned a 1970 MGB for 12 years.  It was a joy to drive with tight, flat cornering, responsive nicely weighted steering and a wonderful exhaust note.  The transmission shifted like a bolt action rifle, very precise and direct.  Thanks for the memories!

That looks both cute and gorgeous in the British racing green with the chromed finishing

You Brits, where it rains all year round, created the perfect classic roadster decades before the Japanese and their Mazda MX-5 Na. Much respect for your creativity and the desire to drive freely with the wind in your hair. Much love from France 🇬🇧😍🇲🇫

My high school buddy had a 1979 MGB. It would be at the mechanic shop during the week so that he could drive it on the weekends.  A couple years after graduation, The Dark Lord Lucas had his way and it burned to the ground on the side of the road on his way into college campus. We salute you, Lord Lucas!

Had loads of these over the years… both rubber and chrome versions… either always seemed to be so much better than the sum of their parts and I still have a soft spot for them 👍

I owned a black 64 MG-B.  It was so much to drive.  Unfortuately, it had Lucas, The Prince of Darknesss, electrics.  I still miss her.

Here in Canada in the seventies I grew up with these cars being everywhere. But by the time the 90s came around they were extinct. Even though British Leyland cars had a reputation for being junk, I always thought that they were so special and nice to look at. It's just another example of how you don't appreciate what you have till it's gone.

Around 1993 I bought a  79 MG Midget, (aka Bumper car)  yeah it did not have much power but I had so much fun driving this thing around,  I did a cross country coast to coast drive from Florida to Washington,  down to California, then back through the center of the US, over 10,000 miles in one month.  of course I broke down in Des Moines Iowa.  (clutch plate).

Although the car was fun to drive,  the quality was terrible,  it rusted easily,  the distributor shaft would eventually start wobbling,  the zenith stromburg carburetor flooded often.    I 'fixed" some of these problems,  changed the distributor for a Mallory , which I later converted to a an optical electronic ignition (this worked wonderfully).  the Engine block was solid,  but emissions testing during the time I had a hard time passing,  even though the thing had a catalytic convertor. I had to use every trick I could find to pass the emissions test.

Getting back to the clutch problem,  this car would eat those up,  in the 10 years I had that car I went through two.   and to replace it,  the whole engine had to be pulled out.  which meant removing the hood (aka bonnet).  I was extremely luck that the only British car mechanic in 3 states was right in the city I broke down in.   and he even had the clutch plates on hand, and let me work on my own car in his lot, and allowed me to hoist the engine out.  this was unheard of.  but he did it because he had like 21 cars in queue to work on, and he felt sorry for me.

I finally made it back home,   I did lose a muffler in Montana during the trip, and had to put something on temporarily.   other than that,  the engine held up.    I miss that little car for the fun I had in it,  I looked like a giant standing next to it,  I am 6,2" and that thing is smaller than a Miata.

I had a 72 MG Midget, one night coming home after a night of partying the right front wheel came off. Fortunately I was close to home. That soured me on British cars.

I recall when the Mazda Miati first came out, they said the engineers listened to exhaust notes for hundreds of hours to get just the right note.  They also joked that they were considering installing an external oil tank to leak oil on your driveway, so that an MG owner would be fully at home!

My friend bought a used, low miles, mid-60s MGB. This was about 1970. It was kind of fun to drive but the thing I remember most about it was that it started to show signs of rusting in about 15 minutes. Maybe Ohio weather was a little too harsh for it.

Learned to drive on that very car. When the neighbor bought a '73 BMW2002 the B was left in the corner of the drive and the weeds took over the wire wheels. He said if I could get it to run I could drive it. Bought a manual and had to learn things like what the hell is a bonnet. Had to tune the SU carbs before each ride, but for a 15 year old it was perfect.

My older Brother bought a '67 in Primrose Yellow as soon as he got back from Vietnam, it was a beautiful car. Many fond mercuries of him driving me around and I can still smell those new leather seats.

My dad bought an MGB around 1968 or so as a “station car”, a car he used to drive to and from the local train station each day. He loved it. He was a pipe smoker, so driving the MGB while sucking on his pipe was his favourite. But my Mom hated it because it was in the shop all the time, it was very bad in the snow, so she had to drive him to the station more mornings than not. He sold the MGB and got the new Datsun 2000, a really wonderful car.
