Ultimately though it’s 4 or 5 hour’s practice a day over years to get to your level and understanding of the game. I’ve been playing snooker on and off for 55years ( I’m 71 ) and made my highest break last week, it was only 30 but I was over the moon. Thanks for sharing 👍👍

had this conversation so many times with learners, looking behind the object ball to the pocket is not the potting line! the potting line is from the cue ball to object ball to pocket and like you said the reason pros do check the potting angle from behind the object ball because of pressure great video Michael

The way I solve that for myself is think in terms of the contact point on the object ball and the cue ball, not just the object ball.

I sometimes go round to look at the pocket head on simply to increase my confidence because the pocket always looks bigger head on than it does from an acute angle. I don't try to keep my eyes fixed on a point though. I'd go dizzy trying it and probably walk into the edge of the table!!! 😅

Great advice, finally potting balls

Lucky for me I'm not a professional snooker player so I have no "occupational obligations"  🙂 .
When I look at the line of the OB to the pocket , I'm  not looking for a "spot"  ,  I treat it as a plant to be made ,
than (for me) is just  to "align the spheres" .

Hey Michael. I know the key to success in snooker is practice. I know this because when I had a 6' x 3' home table and was playing on it every day, I was able to get many 107 maximum breaks. This practice translated over to pub pool tables but not to full size snooker tables. Obviously the reason being from the table size difference and everything that comes with that. My problem is that I can't fit a full size snooker table in my house so I have to visit the local snooker club. But that costs me £25 for 4 hours. So I can't afford more than one visit a week, and sometimes not even that. My highest break is 46. Sometimes I can get several breaks in the 20s and 30s but other times I can't even get a 20+ break all night. I practice as though I'm playing a frame against myself. I'm sure I'm not alone in this scenario and most casual players are like me. So, my question is this. What advice would you give to someone like me, who wants to improve their game, but who is limited to 3 or 4 hours a week table time? In other words, what's the best use of the time I have available to improve my game? And is there anything I can do away from a full size table that would also help? Maybe you could make a video offering advice for people in my position who have limited access to practice time?

Im sure Joe Davis mentions this in one of his books. Ultimate snooker ? If i remember right hes says he imagined the ghost white being in place and just aimed full ball at that. Or something to that effect.
Playing a thin cut is the best example of proving youre not aiming at the contact point.

I practice by playing against myself with scoreboard, and find I usually miss consistently.The one who wins is usually the one who doesn't make the most mistakes by potting the white. The circle of life/death.

Best advice from Me... just pot balls. Keep potting balls. And the angles become second nature.
Never used a potting point in my life.

Not really sure how I aim, But after alot of practice... you just know

I simply tell interested beginners that being behind the object ball shows  you the direction you need to send it to the pocket. And exactly as you say,  how you get it to do that is no magic bullet. Practice practice practice is the only key.
