Shortly after the Battle of Moscow ended with the withdrawal of Army Group Center to a more rearward position in the Rzevh Salient, few imagined that one of the longest and bloodiest campaigns of World War II was about to begin. It was a series of colossal clashes involving infantry, armored vehicles, artillery, aircraft, and paratroopers that would cost the Soviets 1,839,000 casualties and the Germans 520,000 over the period between January 1942 and the spring of 1943.
Juan Campos Ferreira, author of the book "Rzevh 1942-43, Model and Zhukhov Clash in Operation Mars" (HRM Ediciones, 2014), will discuss all five battles fought in the Rzevh Salient, including Operation Seydlitz, Operation Mars, and Operation Buffalo.
