I love that the experts you bring in are kind of massive nerds. I mean, you have to be at least a little nerdy to be as into weaponry and armor and stuff like they are, it’s just also nice to see them willing to apply their knowledge to the logic of video games and movies and the like. Toby being able to nerd out about Warhammer makes the whole thing special.

"Astartes" is such a masterpiece, I never get tired of watching it.

Slowly bringing back the experts i see

I like that you are interviewing and guiding the experts. You have a good knowlege of the geek side that the audience will respond to. That added effort really adds to these videos.

I really appreciated Toby’s bit on Heraldry. I never knew the colors and metals were used like that.

@blasianray 1 year ago

Had no clue that heraldry followed rules like the balance/order of metals and colors. Love these vids!

Love Mr. Capwell’s depth of knowledge & genuine passion that he exudes in every episode! He’s an inspiration for how historians can interact amazingly with as well as outright bridge the gap between entertainment media and educational media. He’s a phenomenal presence every time!

its worth noting that Syn who made astarties was also heavily involved with the secret level episode, his style really comes through with the weight and precision of the marines animation.

Really hate the idea that Knights disliked gunpowder weapons when they(and the rest of the nobility) are probably the reason why pistols are considered an officers'(e.g Commissioned Officers) weapon.

This might sound strange, but I have always appreciated Toby Capwell's cadence.

"You always feel exhausted at the end of warhammer"

That's the perfect way to describe it!

"- The ideal is unachievable."
Fulgrim: And I took that personally.

I love this guy. He doesn't just rubbish everything, he accepts it for what they are trying to portray. Absolute legend.

12:03 I remember hearing or reading something where it stated that a Space Marine's greatest advantage wasn't their size or strength, but their reflexes and reaction time.

28:00 absolutely perfect outro

Probably already mentioned but there was a fluff bar in the 2nd edition when an astartes is having a conversation with a guardsman went something like :”only a fool knows no fear. We still have fear, what makes us strong is that we have faced that fear time and again, learned how to push it down and quiet it time and again until the very act becomes a reflex for us.”

2:50 Technically, IMO, it is a religious ritual, given that technology in the empire of Man is subject to Veneration and Prayers.

I really appreciate Toby because he can set aside how ridiculous warhammer is and comment on the historical inspiration and real world allusions being made. It probably helps that he has gotten into Warhammer himself. It’s refreshing.

When the heretic shoots Metaurus with the bolt pistol in the head, the heretic in front of Metaurus looks at the other one like "Really, bro? That's just gonna piss him off."

I still love the parade in "the lord inquisitor - prologue" Imperial Fists just marching down the street is still the greatest 40k fan animation out there for me
