A supporter of Emmanuel Macron, the Franco-Lebanese owner of the shipping giant CMA-CGM has been benefiting for years from a "tonnage tax," a sort of tax loophole allowing him to pay only 2.7% in taxes instead of the usual 25%. With profits of $23 billion in 2022 (a CAC 40 record), his group is threatened with having its "superprofits" taxed even more. In this context, he is investing in the media (La Tribune, BFMTV) to protect Emmanuel Macron, who is protecting his "superprofits."
