I am just buying a 2.5 ton salt dog spreader today. I really appreciate you taking the time to thoroughly explain your experience and rating for the salter! Good work bro
I found that the slider tray inside to close off supply from the auger was stamped/bent at the same size as the tray it is supposed to slide in. The slide should have been bent to a slightly smaller size to allow smooth movement. If you ever take out the wing nuts/bolts, you'll find the holes are heck to realign. I bought some T-handle bolts (Like a plastic handle with the same thread as the wingnut. That made it easier to loosen/tighten, especially with gloves on. Once I fixed that I never closed it again anyway and haven't touched it. I will still make some kind of a lid... some day lol... but the tarp can be a pain when its windy and trying to load salt. I solved that by using a tarp clamp and then connected to the rear mount ring.... just gives 4 points of contact when you loosen the front two to load. I have the same model and happy that's what I bought. I would like to tweak the knob controls so they are positive position clicks. Nice salt curtain... mine is a harbor freight magnetic fender protector for working on cars... I just tuck the magnet side under the spreader and let it hang. Good job friend
Glad to see you went with a full-size unit..That unit is a lot different than mine but then again ,mine is 14 years old.I found that at only 400 pounds,I can remove and install mine by myself without a front and loader or forklift. I don’t like to make a habit of it but I can do it by standing up on its back backing up to it and getting under it and lifting it in. I could not do that with any of my other units, they were too heavy.
Who follows the payload requirements exactly. You can easily put a 1.5 or 2 yd all day. Airbags and you’ll be fine. Nice rubber protector, definitely protects from salt.
The cord for your plow hand controller seems very long and in the way. The cord on my Boss controller is a lot shorter and it hangs near the center console when not in use. When I’m plowing, I Velcro it to my left thigh and it seems to work pretty well.
