The amazing story of five football founding father stadiums all within one long aerial kick distance of each other in the southside of Glasgow. Literally amongst the very oldest stadiums in the world. Introduced by local Southsider Hugh Reed.

Also thanks to Martin Molloy (occasional camera)

Great video but was Jimmy Johnstone's first ever game against Icelandic team Throtter F. C and won 11-1. Also , Davy Wilson of Rangers scored six goals against Falkirk in a 7-1 win. Also, appertaining to Maradona, I got stuck on the Argentina bus on his first visit, got his autograph. And famous HiHi striker Dave Hilley was my football coach at Whitehill school, great guy, taught me everything I know.

Enjoyable trip down memory lane. Having done some significant research myself into the history of our National team I was aware of the 5 Stadiums but it was great to see it put into context. Thanks!

Well Hugh what a great lot of memories for this Glasgow lass in Australia. I was brought up in 6 Myrtle Place Crosshill in the 50's! The very end prefab opposite Holyrood school. The park behind us was where the away teams buses parked . I walked though the car park and by the walls of Cathkin to Mount Florida school each day. The church there was the church we attended.
I went with my dad on a Saturday, over the turnstiles and stood in the stands in the terraces to watch Third Lanark. I remember sometimes there would be a pea souper fog and we couldn't see the grounds! All the roads you walked I knew.
i was waiting for you to mention the late great Jimmy Mason. My cousin is his daughter in law. I have worn Jimmy's Scotland cap and his gold medal!
Well done on the video.

Very interesting stuff, Hugh. I hate football, have never watched a single match in my whole life but even I found this so interesting.

I also have newspaper article from 1948 where the reporter took my Great Grandfather Joseph Lawson to see Rangers play. My Grandfather had played for the in the late 1890's. They trained on Glasgow green then. You might be interested in a copy to read.

Really interesting local history, Shug. You've even got my house in your film. Great stuff.

Cup finals at Cathkin were at the old Cathkin, surely?

@johncantley 5 years ago

Very interesting i knew about the first Cathkin but had difficulty in envisaging where exactly it was located.

Cathkin Park desperately needs funding for refurbishment, it still has huge potential as a commercially viable sports center and most importantly preserved international heritage site...
