Hello! I'm Toko, and I enjoy traveling with just a backpack.
I love nature, hot springs, and having no plans!
This is my first trip to an outlying island from Okinawa Main Island in a year! (July 2026)
This video shows my trip from day 6 on Aka Island to the last day of my journey.
By morning, the typhoon had passed.
However, the wind was still strong, and the effects of the typhoon lingered in the sea. Experiencing the typhoon on the island allowed me to personally witness the aftermath and the hardships faced by the islanders. First, after the typhoon, everyone on the island patrolled the island, checking for damage.
Witnessing this, I was deeply moved by the people's deep affection for their island.
I also wanted to give back to the inn where I stayed, so I helped out a little after the typhoon.
Not only the cars, but the inn building itself was covered in salt.
They washed it all away with water!
Using stepladders and ladders, we climbed onto the roof and cleaned every nook and cranny.
The windows, in particular, were covered in saltwater.
Thinking about the work they do every time a typhoon hit, I truly understood the hardships the innkeepers face.
On our last night, they prepared a BBQ for us, and we had a wonderful time with the islanders.
Although we couldn't visit Aguni Island as originally planned,
we were able to experience island life on Aka Island for six nights. Seeing how the beautiful Aka Island transforms during a typhoon,
experiencing power outages, and understanding the difficulties the islanders face was invaluable.
Above all, the people of Aka Island are incredibly close-knit, warm-hearted, and their deep affection for their island was truly evident.
This was the best trip I've ever had!
