“Step1: accept that you suck.”

My ego is wounded but im still listening😢😂😂😂

"Sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something." - Jake the dog

I can verify as someone who has been drawing for 20 years and someone who works in the animation industry that everything EVERYTHING in this video is 100 percent true.

This is the roadmap that someone like me would have begged for 20 years ago. I have learned all the information in this hr long video but over the span of decades.

Best art teacher on YouTube and it isn’t even close. No begging for you to join his class no withholding information he gives you it all! For free.

Keep working at it guys even when you’re feeling hopeless if you practice these things you will be MILES ahead of most people, and you certainly will be able to work in any artistic industry as a professional.

Thank you for keeping art alive and thank you for creating artists who keep a fire under my butt so I work harder and get better.

Jarvis, loop this video for 10 hours, thank you.

A teacher of mine once said, "You gotta suc(k), suc(k), suc(k), until you do suc(k)ceed".
I will never forget it. 😊

ok so another thing you NEED to get about art is its a problem solving game, constantly ask questions and go into pieces with zero expectations, and at the end of your drawing make notes on what went well and what didn't,you'll be surprised at how much you like your pieces after doing this

1. perspective 2:26
2. form 8:53
3. proportions 19:05
4. study what looks good 24:11
5. reverse engineering 29:08
6. go back 34:18
7. cell shading 38:16
8. more complex form 40:44
9. believable form 42:14
10. study what looks good 45:11
11. reverse engineering 50:29
12. half tones 51:01
13. add color 55:50
14. master study 59:51
15. emulate 1:00:03
16. experiment 1:01:39

one thing i’ve learned to do, is before i draw anything i literally say “this is gunna be a pretty shitty sketch just to start out and practice” and it completely removes all and any expectation of what i believe the drawing should look like, and instead gives me the freedom to just relax and freehand whatever i want. very freeing. and usually whatever i draw exceeds my expectations and that is always a pleasant feeling.

Hi, I'm from Brazil and I'm learning to draw from scratch. I started studying drawing this week, and I'm beginning with basic shapes. I confess it's quite complicated, but I know that with time it becomes simpler and more natural. Anyway, I'm not giving up. Great video! I'll update you on my drawing progress in a few months!
*Edit 1 (04/03/2026):  Hello guys, sorry for the delay. Anyway, here's the update: after a little research with a few weeks I FINALLY figured out a way to rotate cubes in every way, and it gets so so much easier from that point on. Now I can draw cubes in every way and perspective I want easily. I used to get really pissed off when comes to this and couldn't draw a sh!t. So, I improved a lot in that. I've drawing a lot of cubes and other basic shapes, actually. But now it's a lot more easier and I can really enjoy the process. I'm still training and I'm learning to construct drawings using simple shapes, and draw organic shapes. Now I can draw fishes, cars, people, even creatures like monster and dinosaurs. I think it's still a LOT to learn and practice, but I'm very proud of my process so far.
A gentle reminder for all my artists here: hey, drawing takes time, effort, practice and consistency. Don't compare your process with other artists. Don't give up, keep practicing and improving. It's okay to make mistakes sometimes, it's help us draw better everyday. In the begging it'll looks very difficult, but that's how it is. Don't give up. Okay, that's all bye.
(Don't mind if my english feels odd or if got any grammatic mistakes. I'm not a english speaker.) 🙃

20 years ago I went to art school. How am I learning absolute fundamentals now? Hell, I wasn't even tought to draw with my arm and shoulder.
Been drawing off and on since then. I learned how to actually draw a line properly a week ago, when I decided to sort of reboot my drawing skills with youtube. Insane!

But thanks Youtube and thanks Artwod, I guess. The next generation is safe!

I swear to god. Antonios lectures gives me idk what the word is but just a 😮 moment when it clicks in my mind. To think this is for free is insane everybody who wants to pursue art needs to thank this man (team/studio/crew) like damn.

As someone with crippling perfectionism... Just drawing a ton of boxes and cylinders is the most refreshing advice I've ever gotten and I'm so glad I stuck with your videos enough to finally see THIS ONE because it's the most important

Cylinders over box "purl clutch"

Some people try to draw to impress or some other nonsense like fame or recognition. Just draw for the fun of it, no matter how bad it is

You've truly earned a fan for life, Artwod!! You not only explain things simply, but for people in difficult financial situations looking for escapism you don't withhold information or boast about how paid programs will accelerate you and such. I never comment, but I really appreciate all the work that goes into this, thank you again!

Can't believe it took 26 years for all of this to add up and make sense. This is such a valuable video for me, and your road map makes the complex craft of making 3D look believable on 2D - is digestable in the best way possible. Thank you!

The most ironic thing finding this video is, we were told never to draw from our imagination! The amount of preparation work was insane.
Click on the video and realise how much time a tutor like this could have saved me at art college!
I’m on warp speed to refresh, thank you.

I didn't expect an hour long video but I will gladly accept it

I learned more in 1 hour from you then going through dozens of books which are more like a showcase for the artist rather than a drawing instruction!.
