My ranking of Westeros seasons:
1. Spring
2. Autumn
3. Summer
4. Winter

Finally, my opinion of the HBO ASOIAF has arrived

House of the Dragon season 1 is great but I can’t overlook some of the hair brain decisions they made like Criston killing Joffery at a banquet instead of a tournament, the Laenor death change, and Episode 9 like you said.

So many people need to rewatch the ladder half of GoT, they do not remember how many cartoonishly awful "badd poosay" scenes there were throughout the entire runtime

My ranking:

1. Game of Thrones Season 3
Objectively one of the greatest seasons of TV ever made, with only the final episode perhaps falling a bit flat after the insanity of the Red Wedding. That's all that takes it out of being a flawless season for me.

2. Game of Thrones Season 1
Just a brilliantly constructed tight story with excellent characters and very faithful to the book. I think because of how much setup and worldbuilding the show was forced to do to introduce this world to a new audience, the story was kind of a bit let down by that. Also since the budget was so much smaller there were no battles and not much in the way of onscreen action which makes it less exciting on a rewatch than other seasons.

3. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1
I love this show so much. So many iconic characters in just six episodes. A rare season that I think got better the longer it went on. A few small writing tweaks and it would be perfect, as is usual the negatives against the season are show only inventions (luckily few and far between). Elevated by the performances, but genuinely just such an enjoyable watch.

4. Game of Thrones Season 4
A little overrated imo. Jaime's scene with Cersei over Joffreys body always puts a bad taste in my mouth because of the foreshadowing of his later character assassination by the writers. Some standout episodes among the best of the series, but probably the first appearance in the show of some genuinely bad writing.

5. House of the Dragon Season 1
I can't glaze as much as Quinn can here. Episode 9 is an objectively bad episode with little to no redeeming qualities and is the start of Alicent's descent into arguably the worst onscreen character in ASOIAF history (other than maybe Mysaria). I loved the season mainly because of Viserys, who by contrast is my favourite onscreen character by some distance. The best episodes of HOTD apart from Rhaenyra the Cruel all exist in this season, but the first half is much more consistent in quality than the 2nd.

6. Game of Thrones Season 2
Honestly a lot of this season drags in parts. It feels like Season 3's overshadowed sibling and honestly deservedly so. A lot of what is set up by season 2 is paid off in season 3, so it definitely needs to exist but as a result it's underserved by the plot. Blackwater carries the season for me, but there are still some great character moments with the Starks and Stannis' camp in particular.

7. House of the Dragon Season 3
The season that i think best sums up the strengths and weaknesses of this show laid bare. I feel like people mischaracterise HOTD as being a mediocre or bad show, when in reality it flips between being a great show and being unimaginably awful from episode to episode. It's so hard to decide what to think of this show as a result because episodes like Rhaenyra Triumphant were INCREDIBLE, and yet this is the same show that can do whatever tf happened with Rhaena and turn Alicent into the most nothing character of all time. It gives screentime to the least interesting characters and does nothing to elevate them, and yet some others can be given amazing material and massively improved from the books. God this show is frustrating.

8. Game of Thrones Season 6
Spectacle and more spectacle. This season feels more like a medieval Marvel movie than GOT.  Logic starts to break down here fully, cough Arya in episode 8 and Cersei in episode 10, and good dialogue descends fully into dick and fart jokes. The characters really start to lose their way here but people dont really notice because of the action sequences being such a standout. Gets worse and worse every rewatch.

9. House of the Dragon Season 2
Rhaenyra the Cruel is one of my favourite ASOIAF episodes, just the same as Quinn. Aegon is a highlight of the season. But apart from Rooks Rest and the sowing, the rest of the season could have been an email. Septa Rhaenyra annoyed me more than almost anything else in this show ever has and the finale ended with a whimper, before a two year wait. Honestly fan reception to this season has soured my view on it even further, because of how toxic the discourse around HOTD became after it ended.

10. Game of Thrones Season 5
Boring, stupid, nonsensical, gratuitous violence and assault of women, ruining of certain book plots and arcs. I have little to no interest rewatching this season, and its just such a shame to see what it could have been if it had just actually adapted Dance properly.

11. Game of Thrones Season 7
We're fully into Marvel territory now and the show just stops feeling like GOT anymore. Dialogue is fully gone. There's like one good scene with Jaime and Olenna, and i guess the loot train attack was somewhat entertaining. Thats all I've got.

12. Game of Thrones Season 8
One of my worst experiences as a fan of any TV ever. Nothing has ever hurt me as much as watching what Season 8 did to a universe i love. Just blatant disrespect towards the franchise from cowardly writers who wanted to wrap it up early so they could work on something else. An insult to people that spent nearly a decade following the show and honestly an insult to TV as a storytelling medium. Assassinated every character in the show systematically before bowing out with a wet fart.

had me idris elba coughing gif at that number 2 spot

I'm with you on HOTD S1. I didn't end up watching it all until right before S2 dropped and it honestly blew me away. Also reignited my passion for the world

Game of Thrones really was the last "appointment viewing" show I think. Bridged the gap between cable and streaming eras and you HAD to watch it the night it came out to discuss the next day. I watched the Season 8 finale the night it came out knowing I had to get up at 4AM for my first day at a new job setting up events in NYC. Even though it was awful I don't regret it. It was all anyone was talking about!

1:11 nuh uh, I got my opinion from glidus years ago

Ain't no way HOTD S1 clears AKOTSK S1. The cracks in the story are built directly into the foundation right from that point

Holy work refresh pull

Yes! The Battle of the Blackwater is one of my favorite GOT episodes.

Personally think HOTD season 1 is a lot worse in retrospect, mainly because its choices doom the rest of the series. For example having Rhaenyra and Alicent being the main characters and not creating relationships between most of the characters (Rhaenyra and Aegon, Aegon and Helaena (literally married), most characters and their children - especially if their children are played by child actors). These things couldn’t really be fixed later on and is why the later seasons suffer (plus some other stupid decisions)

Some of the potty humor fell short for me, but overall I LOVED AKOTSK.

nah you’re absolutely right on hotd season 1. i was super done with caring about westeros until watching the first episode of hotd when i realized they were cooking.

Big AKOTSK Fan here,
Love the words you have on season one. Im looking forward to your streams with lord Haven about season two.

HOTD season 1 being no.2 is way to high for me its not better then the first four season of GOT  especially on after a few rewatch the flaws become more and more apparent where as i can barely find any thing to complain in early GOT. I personally would put it no.5 maybe even no.6 behind AKOTSK.

Video #53027 in a row of BEGGING Quinn to STOP USING "WRIT LARGE" TO MEAN "AT LARGE". THAT IS NOT WHAT IT MEANS!!! PLEASE STOP!!!

I’m not one to usually do this but I recently had my first every surgery and it set me back in life a bit and during my recovery I was introduced to the world of ASOIAF by my dad and in turn found this channel and it’s helped me a lot. I’ve fallen in love with this world GRRM has created like the rest of you and it’s just helped me so much to just find a positive in this downtime from surgery

Refreshed right on my lunch break at work, the Crone has bestowed a boon of wisdom on me
