This is basically Arthur’s confession right here before he dies

You can tell by the end of the cutscene that Sister Calderon knew that was the last time she'd see Arthur and that all she wanted to do was to prolong that conversation for as long as possible-- but she had a train to catch.

It got YOU teary? Imagine spending 20+ hours with the guy and his family and getting hit with THAT! I had to pause and go take a walk lol

The fact that you can actually see her in mexico in rdr1 is pretty cool

"Videogames are not art" is a rethoric spoken often by people that are against videogames.

This man, a priest, with absolutely the bare minimum of context in regards to this game still felt and understood the profound emotions, the absolute sadness, that came from those lines "... i'm afraid" spoken by Arthur.

THAT is the point of art, to transmit emotions, ideas, themes and values. It is astounding that videogames of all mediums are treated just as simple childish entertainment instead of the art that they are.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.  God bless.

Yes, Arthur is the main character.

RDR2 isnt just a large game, its a slow game. Alot of people dont realize that and try to rush through it but the game is meant to be a slowburn.

High Honour Arthur Morgan is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest game characters in existance. I have wept many a time over his last ride and death.

Of all the side characters, Sister Calderón is my favorite. She sees Arthur for the man he is and not the man he presents. This scene gets me every time.

"May I stand unshaken. Amid, amidst the crash of the world"

I remember seeing something talking about how Arthur's main sin is Sloth, according to Western traditions.  In Eastern traditions, it's the sin of Despair, the deadliest sin.  The idea goes that he views himself as completely irredeemable and willingly shuts himself out from the chance at forgiveness.  Throughout the game, he tries to justify his actions as "this is just the way it is", and as we see from his dialogue, "(he) had a girl who loved (him) and (he) threw that away", he doesn't think he's worthy of someone else's love.  With sins generally having a social consequence (for example Pride puts yourself above all others), Despair leads you down to believing you and, by extension, the world is beyond redemption and you just let things play out as they go without putting in any effort in making things better.  It's only really this scene where he starts to believe that there is Hope, which going along with Despair being an Eighth Deadly Sin in Eastern Christianity, Hope is the Eighth Heavenly Virtue

After this meeting Arthur goes on to help the family of the man he beat to death for the money (which gave him TB) he ends up saving their lives and going on to giving them more money then he ever got off the Dad/Husband and setting them up to be successful.
This is part of Arthurs Redemption arc, whether you choose to do it or not is up to you, but it is very beautiful if you do.

Explaining Arthur ~ The Loyal Warrior

Loyalty was everything. He was raised in a gang and did whatever his father figures told him.

Hosea was a con man, but a moral one.
Dutch was a revolutionary firebrand. He hated the modern world and believed he had a moral high ground to take what he wanted and do what he wanted. To him, civilization was just a centralized robber or gangster. Authority through strength, benevolent only if those in power chose it. When done by a tyrant it was evil. When done by a shepherd it was benevolent. Taxman or bandit, it did not matter.

Dutch’s philosophy was a strange mix, part “every man a king,” part return-to-nature ethos. Think Nietzsche’s idea of returning not to literal nature but to one’s true nature. Then add Rousseau’s actual return to nature.

Arthur’s ethos was more personal. Not grand ideas, but loyalty to the people around him. He had a strong moral compass, but he never used it outside his tribe. To him, any harm done for his people was justified. Or rather, he did not care enough to face what it meant.

Only when he got sick, and began seeing his harsher actions in a new light, did he recognize what his tribe had truly done. He did not abandon his people, but he abandoned the way of life. His goal became getting as many out as possible. That put him against his father figure.

Arthur had been the favorite son, loyal beyond question, and that loyalty never really broke. In the end, his father betrayed him. Even then, Arthur went back. Not for revenge, not for glory. Only to warn him about the rat, Micah, who had dismantled the gang from the inside.

3:54 "HOLD ON I WANT TO PICK GINSENG"

The sister is one of the best representations of a Christian religious figure in media I've ever seen.

And yes Arthur is the main character you play as in the game, and in my opinion one of the best characters ever written.

This scene when I first watched it actually made me cry and I actually put it down for a bit.

Very slow burn of a very long game, 10/10

Arthur was more or less raised in a gang by an extremely charismatic outlaw. They begin as sort of heroic types, stealing from the rich and trying not to hurt innocent people, but their leader Dutch started spiraling into paranoia and madness as time went on. Arthur realized that things were getting out of control and spends much of the game trying to put his found family on the right path, and when that doesn't work out, save those he can.

Arthur's done a lot of bad things, horrible things even, but spends his last days keeping the people he loves safe.

play RDR2 and 1, ugly, violent, and honest and beautiful.

RDR2's main theme can a bad man be redeemed in his own eyes despite his killings, his robberies, his lies, his loyalties.

do a lets play if your inclined

0:19 Ouch, I'm Dominican from the Dominican Republic.

Kinda funny how the nun only shows up if you play Arthur with high honor, but if you go low honor you just get a drunk Protestant instead.

This game is why I will never hear anyone talk video games down.

This game and this scene in particular brought me closer to God.

“Take a gamble love exists and do a loving act” is so so beautiful
