Humans that have biases - translation: "Sitting in as executives in the SM orgs"

They could sing about a cockroach and win.  That made me chuckle, especially since there is a song about one

Arijit Singh is a legend. The dude's not even 40 & I swear he's been the voice of every Bollywood movie leading man since the '70s😄! What a beautiful voice🫠.

Thank you for emphasizing the need to keep realistic expectations about what winning can lead to in the future. Some expectations are too high and unfair to the winner if they don't get a quick boost.

Great video in all.  A couple of things that stood out to me are, a known lable to lobby for a submission, and that each person will have their bias as part of human nature.  The label impact is something I haven´t thought about before, but it makes total sense.  And of course, changing the category name is a good idea.

Can you confirm if Big Bang or G Dragon submitted anything?  I think it’s very interesting that both BTS & Stray Kids decided not to submit anything - we know why BTS didn’t but not specifics about why Stray Kids didn’t.  Also I find it extremely interesting that 2 HYBE groups submitted.  This means it was really BTS members making their own call not to submit.

Good morning, Fairlane!  Thank you for your informative and interesting videos, as always 😊

Arijit is a legend. I know people might think this is crazy but for anyone South Asian, he's bigger than a Taylor swift. He's a legacy artist. Not to offend but seems kinda weird if he's nominated alongside other acts...

Thanks for the analysis. I wonder how much it matters if any of the members of the acts are also Recording Academy members? With only a very cursory knowledge of the field I can recognize at least two in the list of candidates.

Asian music is so diverse with each with its own sound and that's why Best Asian Pop Award does not work.

Thank you for this video. Fairlane's analysis of the various possible strong candidates for the new GRAMMY Asian Pop category was insightful and professional. I vote for Fairlane to become a voting member of the Recording Academy because she always does her homework and she understands the breadth of the Asian entertainment world.Fairlane would be a huge asset to help CEO Mason fulfill his goal of bringing more incredible Asian music and talented Asian artists to the forefront of American consciousness.👍🏽

One other thing: Olivia Rodrigo is being highlighted by the US Press as a strong candidate for the top GRAMMY awards this cycle. It's also being pointed out that Olivia is of Asian descent. There are no barriers to her being considered for a top award because of her ethnicity. That's also an important thing to remember this GRAMMY cycle.

The question is why are we giving the Best Asian pop bearing?  Why give it significance?  why are we still discussing it when it has already been disnissed as racist by most?  This is a false sense of recognition. The academy just wants to look relevant when it doesn't treat Asian artists as co equals.

Hi, Fairlane. Thanks for this informative video that surveys the field of potential winners for the Asian Pop Performance category.

I have a question about something you cited. When you talked about SB19, you mentioned two of their songs, "Visa" and "Emoji".  "Visa" evidently meets the award's requirement of meaningful use of an Asian language -- and, in fact, it's been reported that "Visa" has indeed been submitted as an entry.  As for "Emoji", it wasn't clear to me whether you meant that this track meets the eligibility requirements as well. I wonder specifically whether "Emoji" meets the language requirement.  Reviewing its lyrics, I see only 2 phrases in an Asian language:  member Josh's rap verse contains "Tagu-taguan ng [feelings]" and "diyan mahusay".  I understand that "meaningful use" doesn't refer to the lyric's subject matter, but instead to how much an Asian language (Tagalog, in this case) was used in the song -- but where do the Grammy rules draw the line between "meaningful use" and "minimal use"?

Or did you mention "Emoji" only to present a case for SB19's recognizability across a potentially broader support base, because "Emoji" as a collab with Mando-pop icon Jolin is an example of SB19's growing international profile?

I AM SORRY IT'S NOT THE BEST, BUT THE FUNNIEST DESCRIPTION SINCE MHJ.

1:37 Why someone would sing about MHJ? 🤣

It will be a Filipino artist

I wouldn’t mind Jay Chou or Kenshi Yonezu wins because they have been highly established artists for decades, but such a win probably wouldn’t help their career much either unless they want to promote in the US. The kpop groups mentioned in this video are still too early to win a Grammy.

Hi Fairlane. Thank you for your interesting insight. I have a question - why is The Rose never mentioned or consideredd. They also have a huge fan base and are also from Korea. Maybe you could use my question for some research content.

I'm sure these are all great artists but how large or mainstream are they compared to the top Korean artists which all dropped out? Would they really have enough draw for people to believe that they are the top artist above all the others? This is a legitimate question and not a shade towards any of them. I admit that I am curious enough to go listen to some of them to check them out but truthfully until your video I had only heard of one of them.
