I think that my favorite line about Superman is that the fantasy isn't about a good man being powerful, it's about a powerful man being good.

Since Superman's powers are basically whatever he needs the best stories are more about reflecting his morals against the world.

Everyone I've seen watching laughs at the same parts, cries at the same parts, and they're shocked at the same parts.

Tells me this movie was done right.

Its not that DC is darker, its that the previous DC movies were darker.

The Snyderverse was dark.  This is more what Superman is supposed to be. Hope.

The “darker” reputation you’ve heard of actually comes from the Snyderverse DC movies. This movie you just watched is the beginning of James Gunn’s DCU, which stays more true to Superman’s accurate, hopeful tone

Man... People not familiar with the character thinking Superman stories have a darker tone really shows the damage Zack Snyder did to the Superman as a character.

17:54 Fun Fact: James Gunn actually stated that he almost cut the scene of Superman saving a squirrel from the film. because the test screening audiences didn’t like it:

“We showed it to test audiences and some people did not like the squirrel. They’re like, ‘Why the heck is he saving a squirrel? Why is he taking time out, saving a squirrel?’ There was a cut where I cut it out and I’m like, ‘I really miss the squirrel. He’s gotta save the squirrel.’”

This film was my favorite film of 2025. It holds a very special place in my heart.

What's so good about this movie is that it doesn't tell you his backstory that was already told hundreds of times in other medium. We know he is Clark Kent, We know he is an alien, We know he has powers, We know his nemesis is a bald guy so just get straight into action.

just pointing out. that john cena cameo is a character from his own tv show which is absolutely amazing as well

This movie is the best way to be introduced to Superman and his supporting cast

Lois Lane is "like that" because she was a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist before she ever met Clark.

The thing is, the oldest DC superheroes have been around for nearly a hundred years, and the characters have seen a ton of different interpretations in that time. So DC is dark and grim and gritty. And DC is also goofy and over-the-top and neon colored. But after a long stretch of the first interpretation being what the movies leaned into, it’s certainly nice to see them show the brighter side.

DC certainly can be dark, but it isn’t by default and Superman is typically the peak of hope in the DC Universe

the new version of Superman in the movie is actually demonstrating incredible strength and durability by surviving and fighting through an antimatter pool, which would be like being hit with the most powerful nuclear weapons in rapid succession. This shows that his abilities are far beyond human comprehension.

DC had a reputation for grimdark movies, but this recent one broke that mold.  Directed by James Gunn, who did the Marvel 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movies, he really went for an old school comic book feel, creating a lived in world with other superheroes already.  Meanwhile, Holt's Lex Luthor was a very contemporary villain, with private armies and his trained monkeys trolling the Internet.

I cannot stress enough how good Christopher Reeve is.  Not just Superman, but many of his movies are well worth the time.

9:45 Superman unique disguise isn’t the glasses. It’s the soul he built because people wonder how no one sees Clark Kent as Superman but they miss the point. Clark isn’t just a costume he’s a deeply lived identity like he slouches and softens his voice and stumbles when he runs and even slow his heartbeat to match a normal human. but he’s not hiding behind a pair of glasses he’s only hiding behind things like empathy. humility. and a lifetime of learning how to be small in a world that treats you like a God.

9:45 when Superman was posing as Clark Kent that he slouches to shave off a few inches and wears loose suits to hide his build and softens his posture and changes his voice pitch and even uses glasses that suddenly alter his eye color. because people don't see what they're not looking for he doesn't just look different he acts different and that sells it. It's his method acting masterpiece.

@4:33  In a way, yes.  He gets his powers from Earth's yellow sun.  When he gets badly injured, exposure to sunlight helps speed up his recovery/healing.
