That's the thing about our boy Clark and why everybdoy loves him, yeah he's capable of doing push ups with the moon on his back but behing all that terrifying strenght he's just a dork
After an era of "dark" and "gritty" films or whatever people like calling them, I'm absolutely loving the new hopeful atmosphere that films have been working on, so we can focus on the best of humanity and all the positive traits that make a hero what they are
So what I love about this superman and lois? She knows he's Superman, she knows he could destroy the building they're in effortlessly. She is NEVER afraid of him, because she knows he's a good man and he's safe to be around, even when he's upset with her.
You have to keep in mind that Superman was at his “Weakened State” and is still powerful enough to defeat his villains and this is everyone who hurts him in the movie:
1. Hammer of Boravia: The Clone of Superman that is disguise as Ultraman.
2. Krypto the Super Dog: who damages his bones in a critical condition.
3. The Engineer. who got destroyed by Superman in a fight and had to catch him when he was going down alongside Ultraman.
4. Metamorpho: The Element Man who can spawn Kryptonite in his hand to damage Superman’s cell which acts like a poison in his system. but he was suffering from Kryptonite poisoning.
5. Ultraman: the exact same clone who beat him earlier in the beginning of the movie.
6. Fire Breathing Kaiju: Which Superman stated that he doesn’t want to seriously harm or kill it.
Everyone else will get defeated by Superman when he is in better shape. besides we only see him do all of this in a “weakened state” the entire time and he was unbeaten for over 3 years and that is suggesting he’s probably beaten lots of Meta Humans at that time. because people just want to see more about Superman’s power scaling and strength than his entire character.
Fun fact, you mentioned the "red undies" which was a point of contention during "Man of Steel." David justified it as this... maybe the point is that Superman wants to seem a little silly, so people aren't scared of him. I love David for thinking exactly like Superman!! The original point of the undies, was that Superman was supposed to look like "strongmen" from old circuses.
Since you two are also watching the live action adaptation of One Piece, here’s a fun fact: The actress who played Cat Grant (Mikaela Hoover) is also the voice of Tony Tony Chopper in the One Piece live action. She was also the voice of Floor in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
8:45 Also, the actor who plays the politician that Lex meets (James Hiroyuki Liao) is also in the live action as Ipponmatsu, the sword shop owner who sold Zoro his two new swords in Loguetown.
I love how Gunn never tried to make him edgy for one second.
Clark is just an incredibly sweet guy, and that goes a helluva long way towards making him likeable.
I'm 43 and i was never big into Supes until this movie, and i'm one of the few who did like Man of Steel. i had always wanted to see his fights depicted well in live action, which MoS gave me, but Gunn and Corenswet's Superman made me finally see the heart that all his fans saw for nearly a CENTURY.
Hi Tori & Lex! Thank you for a fun reaction. Did you know Lex Luthor has been Superman's arch enemy since 1940? His comic book started in 1938, so pretty much his whole existence. As a kid I watched reruns of the 1950's "Adventures of Superman" TV series, so I've known his story for a very long time. But I was a book reader too. Comics didn't have enough words, so I never got into them. As I write this, the Supergirl movie opened yesterday in theaters. Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) has always been Superman's cousin from Krypton. But the details of how she escaped the destruction of their home planet, and their relative ages, have varied across the comics/movies/TV shows. The second Superman film (2027) has been filming here in Atlanta, and they are using the same studio (Trilith) where half the Marvel films were done.
I absolutely love this movie, as a life-long comic book fan at 44. It took me a couple viewings to realize that the guy that hands Clark his phone is the same guy that says, "Maybe you shouldn't have done that thing in Jahranphor". Showing that the guy likely likes Superman but is still willing to question his actions. Also, as someone said before, "Superman is a firefighter, not a cop." It's been the best, simple, description of Superman I've seen.
James Gunn leans heavily into the vibe of comic books. He has faith in the comics. Which I appreciate. And Superman is in the Supergirl movie, but not much. It's mostly off Earth.
The Keaton Batmans are very close to the comics. The 90's animated Batman series was actually based off of the Keaton Batman.
