Maybe turn the vast land holdings by the Royals into HRH Cemeteries?

My parents are buried in this cemetery in the same grave. They have the grave for 50 years which it will then be reused. At first I was unsure about the idea but giving it a bit of thought it made sense. Graves generally are visited for 2 generations. After that they get neglected and people no longer visit. I’m glad my parents remains will remain there though and treated with respect. The grounds are very well maintained and I’ve been very impressed.
My parents were Irish and loved talking to people from other backgrounds so I think they would smile about sharing their grave with other people. 😇🇮🇪

I used to live beside that cemetery in Manor Park, many years ago. It certainly looks a lot nicer now.

At the beginning I was 100% against the idea but honestly the way you did it by flipping the stone so you are not just discarding it is kinda beautiful and really a nice way to do it!

I understand the desperate shortage there must be now, but I can’t help feeling mortified about it.
My worry is also about all the different religions we now have in this country who insist on having their own cemeteries, and certainly would not entertain this idea at all. I do a lot of family tree research and gravestones are a great help retracing history, but I can see that all going to pot too.
I didn’t know that reburial could actually take place after 75yrs, I had thought it to be 100. Some really serious thinking has to go into this more, although I can see the sense in the current predicament. So sad.

I recently paid a visit to Highgate cemetery and others in London. I believe the grave sites are so close together in Highgate that even the little space between them are not wasted as ashes are scattered. No space is wasted because of the high demand for plots.
