The biggest thing we've lost today is respect

The Pop man used to come to my Nanna's house in Newport Wales right out to the very late 80s. The shops closing on a Wednesday afternoon went on until the very late 80s.

Interesting - remember most of it. BTW I played 78s,45s & 33s just this week on my old 50's HiFi. Only audio (as opposed to stereo) but sounds great & I've had at least 5 stereo systems that died in between.

I was born in 1954, and though I remember being cold in bed, and having a coat put over me, and my grandparents having an outside wooden toilet. They actually lived in an old station house. I also remember the pop man and the public telephone. I was lucky I can’t remember a time without indoor plumbing, and having a TV. We also had our own telephone. My sister and I would make crank calls!! We didn’t realise we might frighten people! My dad worked for Ford Motor Company in Halewood and we had a Corsair car. I was about 10. To my friends we were rich! In my humble opinion the mobile phone is one of the best inventions ever!

Oh thanks for the memories, yes they were good things we had and relied on in those days, sometime I think are we going to fast with modernisation, because some of the things that replaced those we used then have they made us any better

We where both borne in 1980's, but I remember taking baths with my cousin (female) at my house and her's. We never asked the question why do we look a bit different.

I remember the tin Bath on Friday night, my grandmother and mother bathed during the day on a Monday, Friday Grandfather, Uncle Jack then me and my brother, one was a blacksmith, the other a boiler maker who made tanks at Vickers Armstong! The bath water smelt of horse, white water, smoke, and sweat! Thank god I've got a house with showers' bathrooms and hot water!

Did anyone notice at 6mins 49secs in that the family huddled around the paraffin heater, there was actually a fireplace with a fire burning behind the settee 🤣🤣
Also I thought it would be more hygienic to wash the children first then mum and dad last 😒😒

And wait until you get to the Coal strikes/electricity cutoffs/freezing winters/hand me down clothes/survival food dad and mum got the best bit of chicken...kids got the pickings...the cane was always a threat at school...i got a "slipper" once forgetting my kit...childhood poverty and i didn't know what warm was until i was out to work earning a boys wage...also i didn't know Food had flavour until i went to lunch with a co-worker...nowadays they send the kids home if temperature drops a few degrees...and that's just the more obvious dark side of early 1970's...my nans had no electricity at all...she used gaslight as the street lights had early 20th century

We used to top our bathwater up as we went along so that it was still hot but dirty water and because children are lighter in whieght than adults the water did not end up all over the floor
